Position Summary
The Social Media Producer is an essential member of Fordham University’s University Marketing and Communications (UMC) team. This role involves creative and strategic content production to enhance brand awareness, strengthen Fordham’s reputation, and engage diverse audiences.
The Social Media Producer will report to the Director of Social Media and work within the Content and Channel Engagement team to develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy.
They will focus on content creation, community management, and engagement, fostering a strong social media presence that reflects Fordham’s values, vibrant student community, and holistic approach to education.
Essential Functions
- Assists in the development and execution of comprehensive social media strategies aligned with the University’s branding, marketing, and communications goals.
- Shoots and edits social media content (e.g., short- and long-form videos) using smartphones or professional equipment.
- Creates, curates, and manages multimedia content (text, images, videos) across Fordham’s social media platforms.
- Stays current with social media trends, tools, and best practices, ensuring Fordham’s content remains innovative and on-trend.
- Maintains brand consistency by ensuring all content aligns with Fordham’s voice and adheres to best practices.
- Writes engaging scripts and copy that capture audience attention and encourage interaction across social platforms.
- Monitors social media channels, responds to comments, and fosters community engagement in a professional and timely manner.
- Builds positive relationships with students, alumni, faculty, and stakeholders through active social media interactions.
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to promote Fordham’s events, programs, and initiatives.

Guides work of other employees who perform essentially the same work and/or student workers. Organizes, sets priorities, schedules and reviews work, but is generally not responsible for final decisions in hiring, performance management or compensation.
Additional Functions
- Uses data insights to create social content that resonates with Fordham’s target audience.
- Manages multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring high-quality content is delivered on time.
- Assists in crisis or sensitive situation management by supporting social media communication efforts.
- Provides best practice guidance to university departments and staff on effective social media use.
- Recommends new strategies and platforms to expand Fordham’s social media presence.
Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in social media management with proven experience as a content creator or social media producer, with a portfolio of work that demonstrates your content production skills.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, emerging trends, and analytics tools.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or other content creation tools.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing social media for a university or large organization.
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and customer relationship management (CRM) tools.
Minimum Starting Salary: $68,000
Maximum Starting Salary: $78,000
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
