Primary Purpose:
Supports the execution of SDG&E's Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) strategy to foster an inclusive, respectful, and engaged workplace culture by advancing D&I initiatives, maintaining ongoing programs, and advising on the development, implementation and management of new policies, programs, and practices. Provides consultation, coaching, and guidance to management and employees while ensuring compliance with federal and state affirmative action and fair employment laws.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a resource in diversity and inclusion, providing technical knowledge to develop and integrate strategies, policies, and programs that enhance employee engagement and workplace culture. Advise management on the design, implementation, and evaluation of D&I initiatives that align with business objectives.
- Provide ongoing guidance and oversight to employee resource groups to ensure alignment with operating procedures and company goals. Partner with group leaders to develop annual plans and track progress against goals.
- Design and deliver diversity and inclusion training ensuring D&I concepts are integrated into broader learning and development programs.
- Analyze workforce data and reports to inform strategic goals, identify gaps, and track progress to drive accountability and transparency.
- Monitor emerging trends and legislation related to diversity, EEO, and affirmative action to assess potential risks and opportunities. Collaborate with the legal department and senior management to develop mitigation strategies.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Hybrid Schedule:
- Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree Business, Management, Public Administration, Behavioral Sciences, Communications, Human Resources, or related fields or equivalent training and experience.
- 3 years experience in Diversity & Inclusion, Human Resources Management, Project Management or related fields or equivalent training and/or experience.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to build lasting relationships and drive consensus.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, team and senior leadership personnel from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and with diverse personalities.
- Organizational and project management abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage sometimes controversial and adversarial situations with impartiality and tact.
- Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality of employee information.
- Ability to both work autonomously and in a team environment, including inspiring, advising, and motivating a network of volunteer employees.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, requiring different competencies and skill sets.
- Ability to negotiate, persuade, motivate, and influence others on highly sensitive and sometimes abstract issues.
- Ability to effectively use discretion and communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to develop, coordinate, and deliver diversity-related training programs and activities to large audiences.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office suite and similar applications.
- Ability to effectively analyze and report on data.
- Knowledge of federal and state Affirmative Action and EEO laws.
- Knowledge of a range of diversity related topics and concerns affecting an organization.
- Travel to various SDG&E job sites
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion, or Project Management.
