Essential Job Duties

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-orientedLaundry Attendant to join our team. This role is essential to the smooth operation of our Environmental Services Department, which supports over 10 million square feet of campus space with a team of over 320 staff members. The Laundry Attendant is responsible for the upkeep and efficiency of the laundry department, ensuring timely delivery of clean supplies to multiple zones, maintaining equipment functionality, and assisting with routine cleaning services as needed. Key responsibilities and duties include but not limited to:

  • Manage heavy-duty washers, tumblers, and related machines in an institutional setting
  • Wash, dry, fold, separate, and track microfiber pads, cloths, and mops for 12 Environmental Services zones, including academics and athletics
  • Ensure adequate stock of detergents, disinfectants, and other supplies required for laundering
  • Conduct routine maintenance on laundry equipment and promptly report any issues to the Zone Manager
  • Maintain inventory levels and deliver clean supplies to designated zones efficiently
  • Sanitize designated campus areas, including vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, and replenishing supplies
  • Remove recycling from centralized indoor sites and ensure compliance with recycling protocols
  • Strip and refinish floors, shampoo and extract carpets, pressure wash entrances and windows, and conduct seasonal window cleaning
  • Address discrepancies and provide support during emergencies or inclement weather conditions

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform snow and ice removal within a team environment during inclement weather, in addition to coordinating with coworkers during group response to emergencies.
  • May be required to periodically strip and refinish floors, as well as shampoo and extract carpets. Periodic pressure washing of entrances, exterior walls, and windows may be required. Seasonal window washing may be required.
  • May be required to fill in for absenteeism outside of assigned area.

Minimum Experience/Education

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special certification may be required for some of these positions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously without compromising quality
  • Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of cleaning equipment
  • The role requires frequent lifting of up to 30 lbs and occasionally up to 60 lbs, grasping, pushing, pulling cleaning equipment, reaching above shoulders, bending, squatting, climbing ladders up to 8 ft, distinguishing colors, effective communication with supervisors and the public, following instructions, and prior experience in housekeeping duties

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing housekeeping duties in a university or commercial environment
  • Preferred experience or knowledge of information technology systems and devices for monitoring and completing emails, phone calls, timesheet management
