Primary Purpose:
Provides high-level environmental guidance ad support to internal clients, peers, management, and project teams. Conducts and oversees complex analysis of the potential effects of existing and proposed company operations on the environment. Advocates the company position at government agencies to provide flexibility to company operations in meeting environmental requirements.
Routinely identifies, analyzes and interprets regulatory requirements affecting company operations in order to develop strategies to mitigate the impact to company operations, advocacy packages for use in lobbying company positions, compliance programs/procedures/tools to ensure compliant operations, and strategic plans to support business objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare permit applications, standard practices, guidance documents and training materials. Communicate regulatory and program changes and provides training to operating groups.
- Act as a project leader for multiple complex environmental projects. Develop contracts for and manages the work of consultants on, specialized environmental projects.
- Develop and analyze environmental data in several disciplines including identifying, analyzing, interpreting and negotiating regulatory agency requirements, proposed legislation, regulations and standards affecting company operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Hybrid Schedule:
- Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree Environmental, engineering, urban planning, geography, landscape architecture, science, biology, related discipline or equivalent training, experience and certification.
- 5 years - Environmental experience.
- Requires a thorough knowledge of related environmental or scientific disciplines.
- Must have advanced project management and leadership skills and be extremely thorough in; identifying, analyzing, and evaluating all potential financial, environmental and operational impacts of projects and regulations on company operations.
- Requires the ability to anticipate and/or recognize complex problems and propose innovative and strategic solutions using the most current physical and environmental planning concepts and technologies.
- A thorough understanding of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
- Equally adept at working independently/autonomously (with little oversight and/or support) or as part of a team or group.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and multi-tasking skills to manage and/or participate in multiple projects, often simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal/relational skills to interact with clients, consultants, subject matter experts, legal, and regulatory inspectors/agencies.
- Excellent oral and written communications, including briefing/presentation skills.
- Proficient in MS Office and other standard software programs.
- Proficient in (or able to quickly learn and use) different compliance software, emissions databases, and/or reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in dealing with utility energy issues at state and federal levels is desirable.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Environmental Specialist Certification or other environmental certification is preferred.
