Security Officer (Temporary/On-Call)
Job Description
The Security Department at the College of Saint Benedict (CSB) invites applications for a temporary, on-call, Security Officer. Security Officers are responsible for patrolling campus areas as assigned and attend to matters of security (law enforcement), traffic control, and the general health and safety of all members and guests of CSB and the monastery communities.
The Security Department, made up of 7 full time and 4 part time staff, is committed to providing a safe environment where all members of our community my learn, live, teach, and work. The safety of our student, faculty, staff and visitors is our primary goal.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for regular assigned patrol duties either on foot, bike or motor vehicle.
- Responsible for the enforcement of vehicular traffic and parking regulations.
- Patrol buildings and ground as defined and assigned for the purpose of security, safety and order.
- Report hazardous conditions and potential fire problems.
- Provide emergency assistance and protection where needed and authorized.
- Provide assistance to guests, students, employees, member of the college and monastic community when requested or authorized to do so by current regulations and policies of the department.
- Respond to all campus fire calls, medical emergencies, traffic caused incidents, breaches of security, criminal complaints and calls for assistance to provide whatever aid and assistance is requested or needed.
- Investigate and report all traffic caused accident to proper authorities.
- Provide Traffic and crowd control duties at campus events.
- Attend all required department meetings and training sessions.
- Testify as required at judicial proceedings called by proper authorities including, but not limited to Sate, County and local court authorities, and College authorized investigations or hearings.
- Responsible for the accuracy and preparation of required departmental reports and records.
- Responsible for supervision of student officers.
- Maintain uniform and equipment as prescribed by departmental regulations.
- Perform other related duties.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred.
- Valid driver's license required. Ability to drive a college vehicle which includes the completion of college defensive driving program. A driver's license check will be conducted.
- Must pass criminal background investigation.
- General good health and capable of periods of prolonged physical activity including walking, running and standing.
- Ability to handle all types of situations with calm and authority and move from highly stressful situations to routine contact while maintaining outward calm and control.
- Willingness to become Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board/CPR Certified.
- A willingness to maintain a high level of competence. Discreet judgment and confidentiality are expected.
- Ability to operate a computer to utilize email and basic tasks.
