Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking essential technical support to the Department’s strategic communication goals across social media platforms in content creation, campaign development, and public engagement. This role involves collaboration across programs on public health initiatives, management of content calendars, and contribution to social media policies and best practices.

Essential Functions

  • Provides technical assistance to the Social Media Manager in execution of Department strategic communication goals when it comes to social media platforms, including:
  • Under the approval and guidance of the Social Media Manager, creates communications and public engagement concepts in furtherance of Department goals for the development and execution of promotional events and activities to generate awareness of existing projects and announce new Department services and projects, while ensuring the integrations and consistency of branding and messaging in social media platforms using social marketing tools.
  • Enhances the image and presence of the Department, in coordination with the Community Outreach Coordinator, through public engagement efforts with non-profit agencies, individuals, community groups and grassroot organizations. Develops social media content surrounding public engagement efforts, capturing photo and video to promote these efforts.
  • Under the direction of the Social Media Manager, develops guidance, training and best practices to internal stakeholders across the Department on the use of social media for development, including how to support individual profiles and drive engagement.
  • Researches and maintains working knowledge of emerging tools and trends in the digital and social media landscapes.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with coursework in business or public administration.
  • Requires one year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year experience with communication goals.
  • One (1) year experience planning, developing and implementing promotional activities for a program.
  • One (1) year experience enhancing the image and presence of a Department through public engagement efforts with non-profit agencies, individuals, community groups and grassroot organizations.
  • One (1) year experience developing guidance, training and best practices on the use of social media.
  • One (1) year experience researching emerging tools and trends in the digital and social media landscapes.
