The Department of Fine Arts at Santa Fe College is seeking a nine (9) month Assistant Professor of Dance to promote and encourage student success through high quality instruction. This role supports the needs of dance BFA transfer students and general dance program engagement. We are looking for a dynamic dance professional with a distinguished record of excellence in teaching practices and artistic achievements.

Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor of Dance will develop, prepare, and teach a diverse range of courses, including specialized dance techniques such as Ballet and/ or Contemporary dance practices and general education dance courses. The college is particularly interested in candidates with a professional dance background and with robust choreographic experience to create and stage works for the Dance Theatre of Santa Fe, which hosts multiple annual performances concerts and participates in the American College Dance Association conference. The role also involves assisting with the Young Dancer Workshop of North Central Florida, a recruiting and fundraising event co-hosted with the University of Florida Dance program. Responsibilities for this teaching position include choreographing and directing performances, collaborating with current dance faculty, recruitment and program growth activities, and supporting students’ development as twenty-first-century dance artists.

The SF dance program serves general education students, those transferring to BFA dance programs, and individuals entering the professional dance field. The Assistant Professor of Dance must be adept at mentoring students with diverse needs and contributing to the program's growth. Flexibility to teach day, evening, and online courses, as well as through other distance learning formats, is required. Candidates should have a strong collaborative spirit and a respectful approach to working with existing faculty.

The position’s starting salary is $48,360 annually. Any salary amount above this is commensurate upon an individual’s qualifications.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction to didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.

  • Teaches multiple levels of specialized dance techniques to include Ballet and/or Contemporary and general education courses, such as Dance Fundamentals and World Dance.

  • Supports and promotes the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and timely service.

  • Collaborates with the Chair, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum that cultivates the mastery of course content.

  • Ensures curriculum is current with national collegiate dance practices.

  • Demonstrates technological literacy and innovation in the delivery of instruction.

  • Choreographs for departmental performances.

  • Assists in all dance program activities, including the Young Dancer Workshop of North Central Florida.

  • Works collaboratively as part of a cohesive academic team.

  • Assists with the implementation of college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the SF philosophy, mission, strategic initiatives, and procedures.

  • Participates in departmental meetings and collegewide committees as needed.

  • Initiates and attends recruitment events and activities related to program enhancement and growth.

  • Provides students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.

  • Mentors dance students to aid in their success and development.

  • Appropriately documents student progress and maintains records including attendance, grading, and student learning outcomes.

  • Develops methods that fairly and accurately assess students’ progress in achieving the stated learning outcomes/objectives.

  • Maintains appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.

  • Strictly honors the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: A master's degree in Dance (MFA) or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Dance.
Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.
Preferred: Professional dance background with robust choreographic experience.

  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.

  • Detail Oriented - Proven accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
