Structural Engineering Intern - Bridge - Summer 2025
Job Description
Moffatt & Nichol is actively looking for an Intern with Structural Engineering with bridge focus to join our San Diego office. Interns will provide support to design engineers by being involved in engineering and administration of projects, as well as assisting in obtaining and reviewing information for marine, waterfront and bridge (depending on office location) design and analysis.

Duties and responsibilities:

- Analysis, design, inspection of transportation structures, asset management, and other transportation projects
- Structural analysis and design with timber, steel, concrete and composite materials
- Prestressed concrete analysis and design
- Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed
- Help resolve design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project
- Calculate construction quantity estimates
- Work closely with other architects, engineers, scientists, project managers, etc. on multi-discipline projects
- Office construction administration including review of shop drawings and technical submittals
- Perform construction site inspections and prepare inspection reports

Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil engineering with a Structural Emphasis
- Must be a rising Junior in your Bachelor's degree program
- A Master's degree student is preferred
- Working towards an EIT certification
- At least one previous related internship preferred but not required
- Ability to perform field investigations
- Any experience in finite element analysis, AutoCAD, or consulting a plus
- All new hires will be required to complete and pass a background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
- Due to client requirements, selected candidate must show proof of U.S. citizenship. A federal background check will be conducted

Base salary range:
$25.00 to $32.00 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.
Physical requirements:
Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
