Position Description

This position is responsible for providing effective instruction for assigned courses.

Openings for these positions may not exist at the present time. However, upon review of your qualifications, you may be contacted directly by the department as needed. Part-time (adjunct) faculty positions provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a part-time, temporary basis.

 

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.

 

*Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner

*Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance

*Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour

*Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment

*Grades and returns student work in a timely manner

*Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course

Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course

Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction

Maintains regular office hours

Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom

Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching

Serves on college or department committees as needed

Attends professional development opportunities when possible

Assists with establishing goals and objectives for the course, selecting text and constructing a syllabus

Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate

Participate in graduation exercises

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning  

Be innovative, creative, motivated  

Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others  

Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently  

Good organizational skills  

Knowledge of and facility with technology and software including, computers, and web-based resources such as BlackBoard  

Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision  

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal 

Computer skills using basic functions of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, and Outlook 

Demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential  

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both Spanish and English, including reading, writing, and speaking

 

Requirements:  

Associate's degree in Automotive Systems Technology, or Diploma in Automotive Systems Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience  

Four years of industry experience

Communicate effectively in both Spanish and English, including  reading, writing, and speaking

Preferences:  

Associate's degree in Automotive Systems Technology   

Five years relevant industry experience in an automotive repair facility   

Teaching experience with assessment of student learning outcomes in an Automotive Technology program   

Experience teaching in Spanish

ASE Master Technician certified   

NC Safety and OBDII certification
