Job Summary

The Network/Server Administrator is responsible for managing, monitoring, maintaining, and securing the college’s network and server infrastructure.  This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, supporting, documenting, and optimizing all network and server hardware/software, as well as maintaining consistent and reliable connectivity combined with professional and courteous customer service to Mitchell’s faculty, staff, and students.


Salary will commensurate with experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Perform network design and capacity planning.
  • Install and maintain virtual and physical servers, which includes but is not limited to Windows and Linux operating systems, cloud systems (Office 365, Azure AD, etc.), database system, storage, backups, upgrades, and patching.
  • Install, configure, and maintain all network equipment, which includes but is not limited to switches, routers, wireless, IP telephony, uninterruptable power supplies (UPSs), backups and upgrades.
  • Responsible for maintaining and upgrading structured cable systems.
  • Inventory and document all relevant systems, including additions, deletions, moves, and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and other network services.
  • Install, configure, and maintain server-hosted software.
  • Manage security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus, VPN, Network Access Control (NAC), and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Provide assistance with teleconferencing, collaboration sessions, events, and online meetings.
  • Conduct research on network and server products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network and server procurement and development efforts.
  • Diagnose problems with network and server equipment/software.
  • Provide professional, timely, and courteous customer support.
  • Work closely with the IT Support team and ERP Systems team to support college and IT needs.
  • Serve as a backup to other IT Operations team members.
Related Responsibilities:
Any other duties as assigned by the IT Operations Manager, Chief Information Officer (CIO), Vice President of Accounting/CFO (or equivalent), and the President.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Associate’s Degree in Information Systems, System Administration, Network Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with networking and server technologies.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with administering operating system software, such as Microsoft Windows and Linux.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with hardware vendors such as Cisco, Dell, HP, and Aruba.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or Computer Science is preferred.
  • Industry standard IT certifications are preferred (CompTIA, Cisco, ISC, etc.).

 

Additional Information

Surroundings/Environment: 
Work is generally done in an office environment but will require physically setting up equipment and peripherals in offices, closets, and classrooms.
 
Physical Effort: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to maintain a stationary position for an extended period.  The employee must also move around multiple campus locations, and operate, position, and install numerous types of technology, as needed; and frequently communicate with others. The employee may require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.  Working on a ladder may be required.
 
Scheduling: 
This is a full-time position. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am – 4:30pm; however, must be able to work a flexible schedule, with day, evening and weekend hours as needed.  
 
Travel: 
Local travel is required, including between campus locations.  Occasional travel to conferences and training will be required.
