Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Manager, Food Services, perform a variety of routine tasks to assist in the efficient operation of the food service program.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed below.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Health and safety regulations.
  • Standard kitchen utensils, equipment and appliances. 
  • Methods of assembling, preparing and servings foods in large quantities.

Ability to:
  • Operate food service utensils and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operate a cash register and make change quickly and accurately.
  • Lean health and safety regulations.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Work effectively under rush conditions.
  • Assemble, prepare and serve a variety of food items in large quantities in a sanitary manner.

Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Set up serving areas; set up steam tables and ice trays; set out food and beverages.
  2. Serve food to students and staff according to established procedures.
  3. Assist in colling or assembling short order food such as hamburgers and hot dogs.
  4. Assist with the preparation of a variety of food items such as fruits and vegetables; assist with making salads and preparing fruits cups; package foods as necessary according to established procedures.
  5. Operate a cash register; make change.
  6. Maintain work areas and serving areas in a sanitary manner; wash and clean steam tables; clean and store utensils, trays and kitchen equipment.
  7. Refill and restock food areas; prepare beverage machines for use.
  8. Perform related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position 1: Monday-Thursday: 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. AND Friday: 6:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Position 2: Monday-Thursday: 10:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m. AND Friday: 6:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

This is a non-telecommuting position.

Must satisfactorily pass a pre-employment physical examination if selected for position.
 
All District employees must participate in the COVID-19 Vaccination Program, which requires them to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they receive an approved medical or religious exemption.

Environment:
Cafeteria environment.

Physical Abilities:
Standing for extended periods of time.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a cash register and wash and clean utensils and equipment.
Bending at the waist.
Moderate lifting.
Seeing to serve food in appropriate quantities.

Hazards:
Exposure to very hot foods, equipment, and metal objects used in food services.
Exposure to sharp knives and slicers.

A screening committee will evaluate applicants, taking into account the breadth and depth of relevant education, training, experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities. Selected applicants will be invited for an interview.

If additional positions become available in this classification, applications received in response to this posting may be considered for those additional positions for up to 90 days after final board approval.

Candidates selected for employment with SWCCD must be fingerprinted by an electronic fingerprinting service (i.e. LiveScan) within 10 days of employment; provide clearance of tuberculosis (dated within the past 4 years and renewed every four years as a condition of continued employment) within 60 days of employment; provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Successful candidate selected may be assigned to any of the campus sites (Chula Vista, Crown Cove, National City, Otay Mesa, and/or San Ysidro).
