About the Role:

We are looking for a bioconjugation expert to join our Bioconjugates Research Group. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, generating, and characterizing novel bioconjugate modalities, including antibody-peptide conjugates (APCs), antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates (AOCs), and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). Your expertise in protein and antibody conjugation will significantly impact Neurocrine's future pipeline of innovative therapeutics.

You will be responsible for delivering novel antibody conjugates as identified within the company's R&D roadmap.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
  • Maintains a strong laboratory presence along with design and planning activities

  • Design, synthesize and characterize antibody conjugates using state-of-the-art bioconjugation methods, purification processes, and biophysical techniques

  • Develop and optimize conjugation protocols using novel chemistries and techniques to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality across various bioconjugate modalities such as peptide-antibody (APC), oligonucleotides-antibody (AOC) and small molecule antibody (ADC) conjugates

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with chemists and other teams to design and establish linker-payload biologic SAR (structure-activity relationships), supporting both scientific discovery and project progression

  • Lead projects toward agreed-upon milestones and timelines, with the ultimate goal of advancing to clinical candidate nomination

  • Effective communication of scientific rationale, results and interpretation at project, team and departmental meetings, contributing to strategic discussions

  • Maintain accurate and well-organized lab notebooks and batch records to document all experimental procedures and findings, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards

  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with critical collaborators throughout the company

  • Help guide and train junior scientists

Requirements:
  • BS/BA degree and 8+ years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry OR

  • Master's degree in biology, life sciences or related discipline and 6+ years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry

  • OR PhD or equivalent and 4+ years of relevant experience

  • Proficient in all aspects of modern protein bioconjugation, including peptide, protein, and antibody purification and analytical characterization. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and the ability to work with and recommend a variety of laboratory equipment and techniques

  • Experienced in optimizing and delivering antibody conjugates with various payload classes, such as peptides, oligonucleotides, and small molecules. Shows deep understanding of different conjugation strategies, including stochastic and site-specific conjugation, is desirable

  • Capable of independently designing and implementing conjugation and purification strategies, applying state-of-the-art knowledge in the field

  • Strong publication record demonstrating accomplishments in relevant research areas

  • Possesses a solid understanding of peptide, siRNA, and protein structures, along with associated biophysical techniques to assess structure, stability, and behavior in solution

  • Experience with formulation strategies for conjugate molecules is desirable

  • Experience with siRNA design/synthesis is a plus

  • Motivated to maintain a strong presence in the laboratory while also engaging in design and planning activities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong oral and written communication abilities

  • Demonstration of cross-functional understanding related to drug development

  • Assimilates data and research findings outside of Neurocrine and applies them to new scientific projects

  • Prioritizes teamwork above all else

  • Exhibits leadership skill and ability, typically leads lower levels and/or indirect teams

  • Excellent computer, communications, problem-solving, and analytical thinking skills

  • Sees the broader picture, and has an impact on multiple programs teams and/or departments

  • Utilize working knowledge of other related disciplines to provide solutions to a wide range of difficult problems

  • Good leadership, mentoring skills, and abilities typically lead lower levels and/or indirect teams

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex scientific data to cross-functional teams and senior management

  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills, showing a proactive attitude toward exploring new approaches

  • Experience with project management and strong project leadership skills

  • Able to meet multiple deadlines across various projects/programs with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $128,200.00-$185,900.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 30% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
