This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at various locations and remote.

DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, provides coordination of all activities involved with the surgical removal, preservation, perfusion, packaging, and transportation of organs recovered for transplant. Independently responsible for intraoperative organ preservation and packaging of organs for local and distant cases. Provides preservation, first-assist and packaging support to local organ recovery teams on non-local organ recoveries while utilizing aseptic and sterile techniques.

Manages and monitors organs for transplant on mechanical preservation devices. Assist with development and application of training programs for new transplant recovery specialists. Assists with coordination of transplant recovery team activities and ensures on call rotation coverage. Assists with the ongoing process improvement of transportation services, supply and medication ordering processes. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science plus two years of experience in the kind of work to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Must have applicable certification/licensure as surgical tech or EMT.

  • Two (2) years of experience as a surgical technician, EMT, transplant recovery specialist, respiratory therapy or OPO surgical recovery specialty.

  • Ability to work on-call, 24/7 work environment on a rotation basis.

  • Ability to use ground transportation and air transportation; fixed-wing and helicopter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Transplant Preservationist certification (CTP).
  • Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) experience.
  • Experience with normothermic regional perfusion.
  • Experience with organ perfusion and preservation devices.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Must have reliable personal transportation and be able to report to the UCSD La Jolla Hospital within 30 minutes after contact.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $78,509 - $97,635 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $37.60 - $46.76

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
