The research technician will work full-time (40 hours per week) in the White lab, and will be responsible for managing equipment and reagent ordering, group stock buffer and reagent preparation, as well as protein production, enzymatic assays, and standard cell culture maintenance. It is essential that the technician have familiarity with wetlab work, exceptional oral and written communication skills, and good organizational skills. Specific lab duties include preparation of lab stocks including protein purification buffers, bacterial culture media and plates, cell culture media and plates, chemi-competent bacterial cells, antibiotic and selection media preparation, protein purification, and mammalian cell culture line maintenance. Other logistical duties include:organizing and maintaining wetlab protocols; timely ordering of laboratory supplies; archive maintenance; equipment maintenance; working closely with the PI and other lab members to train new students; and ensuring compliance of White Lab protocols, environment and materials with Notre Dame Safety regulations. If desired by the selected candidate, the position is also capable of adapting to include training in new techniques, and work on an independent research project.
This position is for a limited term of one year (expiring May 31, 2026), but it can be extended and is contingent on the availability of external funding.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree (4 years) in Biology, Chemistry or Biochemistry
- Successful applicant must have familiarity with wetlab biochemical or cell biological work; these include buffer preparation, competent cell prep, bacterial transformation, protein purification, PCR, SDS-PAGE and western blotting.
- The successful applicant must also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills; basic computer skills including familiarity with Office suite, Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator; and excellent organizational skills.
- Physical requirements: The White Lab works with BSL1 and BSL2 reagents as well as toxic or carcinogenic compounds. The White Lab is in full compliance with the safety rules of the University of Notre Dame.
Preferred Qualifications
- familiarity with data analysis software such as GraphPad or PRISM
- familiarity with experimental troubleshooting
- experience with mammalian cell culture techniques
- familiarity with light microscopy
- experience communicating research goals and purposes.
