Salary range: The full pay range for this role is $93,400 - $155,700 annually. The target range for this position is $115,000 to $131,000. We generally base our salary decisions on factors such as internal equity, candidate work and/leadership experience, educational credentials, and in some cases, candidate work location.

Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled AWS Cloud Linux Systems Engineer to join our dynamic IT/DevOps team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in managing Linux-based cloud infrastructure, automating workflows, ensuring high availability, optimizing performance, and implementing security best practices in a cloud environment. The AWS Cloud Linux Systems Engineer will be responsible for deploying, configuring, and maintaining AWS infrastructure services.

Responsibilities
  • AWS Cloud Infrastructure Management:
    • Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux-based instances on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
    • Manage cloud services (e.g., EC2, S3, VPC, Load Balancers, RDS, Google Cloud Compute Engine, Cloud Functions).
    • Ensure cloud infrastructure is scalable, secure, and highly available.
    • Collaborate with DevOps and Development teams to design cloud-native solutions that integrate with CI/CD pipelines.
  • AWS Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
    • Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation.
    • Automate routine tasks and infrastructure provisioning using Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
    • Implement and maintain cloud automation scripts for cloud resource management.
  • AWS Security & Compliance:
    • Implement and enforce security best practices for cloud environments (e.g., secure SSH, firewall rules, encryption, IAM roles, and policies).
    • Manage and configure identity and access management (IAM) for cloud services.
    • Perform regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and work with the security team to resolve issues.
    • Monitor and mitigate risks associated with cloud resources, focusing on secure access, network segmentation, and compliance.
  • AWS Monitoring & Performance Optimization:
    • Implement and manage monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Datadog) to track system performance, network traffic, and resource utilization.
    • Ensure high performance and availability of cloud infrastructure through resource optimization, cost management, and troubleshooting of performance bottlenecks.
    • Set up alerts and log management using tools like ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), Splunk, or Cloud-native logging solutions.
  • AWS System Administration:
    • Manage and troubleshoot Linux-based systems, including software installation, patching, and updating across cloud environments.
    • Configure and maintain web servers (e.g., Apache, Nginx) and databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) in a cloud infrastructure.
    • Manage cloud storage services such as Amazon S3, EBS, etc
  • Collaboration & Documentation:
    • Work closely with Development, QA, and Operations teams to ensure smooth deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of applications.
    • Maintain documentation for cloud infrastructure, automation processes, and best practices.
    • Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to junior team members.
  • Incident Management & Troubleshooting:
    • Quickly respond to and resolve system outages, network issues, or performance degradation in AWS cloud environments.
    • Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes for recurring issues.
  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

This position may require occasional after-hours and weekend work to perform system updates, deployments, or respond to critical incidents.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have strong experience with AWS cloud infrastructure management, scripting, system monitoring, and performance optimization. This role requires a self-motivated individual who can thrive in a fast-paced environment while collaborating with other teams (such as AWS DevOps, Security, and Development) to ensure seamless and reliable AWS cloud infrastructure operations.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience as a AWS engineer, Linux Specialist, Cloud Specialist, or Infrastructure Engineer in a similar role.

Required Skills:

  • AWS Cloud Experience: Proficiency in managing cloud platforms such as AWS, with at least 7-9 years of experience working in cloud-based environments.
  • Linux Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Linux-based systems (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat) with at least 5-7 years of hands-on experience in Linux system engineering.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Hands-on experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
  • Automation Tools: Strong experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • AWS Networking: Understanding of networking concepts such as DNS, VPN, CIDR, subnets, and VPCs in a cloud environment.
  • Security Best Practices: Knowledge of cloud security practices and tools (e.g., IAM, VPC security, firewalls, encryption).
  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Experience with monitoring and logging solutions (e.g., CloudWatch, PagerDuty, LogicMonitor).

Preferred Skills:

  • Certifications in relevant areas such as ITIL, Certified Asset Management Professional (CAMP), or similar.
  • Experience with cloud-based monitoring tools and asset management solutions.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to asset management and data privacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to be productive and produce quality results in a dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Exceptional work ethic and time management skills, ability to work well independently and as part of a team, good prioritization skills, excellent analysis and troubleshooting skills with a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with peers and cross-functional team members from a variety of business functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to be productive and produce quality results in a dynamic work environment.
  • On call after hours is necessary for problem resolution, and project management/installations.
