Responsibilities*
Research insurance coverage, deductibles, co-insurance, and maximum benefit through payer websites and direct contact with insurance companies.
Work onsite with our students regarding the patient's insurance coverage of treatment plans, prior-authorization requirements, payment requirements, and applicable fees.
You will send and receive prior-authorizations and communicate receipt of approval/denial.
Register insurance and update patient demographics.
Check patient's Medicaid eligibility.
You will assess the need and eligibility for financial arrangements.
You will financially counsel patients on out-of-pocket amounts when payments are expected.
Provide direction to check-in staff regarding collection of payment.
Be available for in-person discussions with patients of their balance-due.
Assess balance due vs. insurance coverage and make necessary corrections.
You will answer any incoming patient calls regarding insurance and fees.
You will reach out to patients who have a loss in benefits and upcoming appointment.
You will make change, order monies, and order deposit supplies.
You will report to patient business office supervisor.
Required Qualifications*
3+ years of experience in a dental or medical office setting.
Experience with a computerized patient management system.
Experience with Excel (can maintain complex spreadsheets).
Experience writing professional email and formal business communication; including conveying complex information.
Experience prioritizing to meet varying deadlines.
Knowledge of handling confidential information and communicating with diverse populations including staff, faculty, students and patients.
Excellent attendance and punctuality.
Desired Qualifications*
Work Schedule
Position is in-person and eligible for 10-hour days, 4 days per week; or 8-hour days, 5 days per week. There are occasional evening hours on Thursday's.
Work Locations
This position is on-site, located at the School of Dentistry at 1011 N University, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
