Research Technologist

Job Description

The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Technologist for the division of Pediatric Neurology. Under the general supervision of a faculty investigator, Haiwen Chen or laboratory supervisor, the candidate is responsible for assisting in routine analyses and tests on animal or human fluids and/or tissue to study the causes and pathology of neuroinflammatory diseases. Work requires basic use of scientific methods, procedures and techniques, uses basic understanding of theory behind experiments, applies basic analytical skills to implement assigned projects, and will identify and trouble-shoot situations needing special attention.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform experiments associated with neuroscience and immunology.
  • May implement use of specialized laboratory methods for making and maintain primary cell cultures, basic blood separation, labeling and assay methods such as immunohistochemistry and other associated molecular biology techniques.
  • Operates basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, light microscope, and/or utilize laminar flow hood.
  • May utilize sophisticated instrumentation such as: epifluorescent microscope, confocal microscope.
  • Operates lab computers for data entry.
  • Sacrifices and dissects animal tissues as required.
  • Prepares tissue for study utilizing histochemical techniques.
  • Maintains accurate data records.
  • Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred

Role/Level/Range: ACRO40/E/02/CC  
Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY (Commensurate with experience) 
Employee group: Casual / On Call 
Schedule: M-F; hours vary 
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
