Senior Research Support Associate, Flavell Lab

Job Description

SENIOR RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE, FLAVELL LAB, Picower Institute for Learning and Memory, to assist in genetics, optogenetics, in vivo calcium imaging, and quantitative behavioral experiments aimed at understanding how neural circuits generate patterned activity that gives rise to complex behaviors; perform creative and innovative research rather than procedural lab tasks; conduct molecular, genetic, optogenetic, imaging, and behavioral experiments aimed at understanding how neural circuits generate complex behaviors in the nematode C. elegans; design and perform experiments; analyze and interpret data, often large-scale datasets that require computational approaches; engage in creative and innovative research in the course of performing this work, contributing to overall research directions and discoveries; and assist in lab management, organization, equipment maintenance, and maintaining a safe work environment. Research will use the model system C. elegans.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: High School diploma; basic familiarity with molecular biology (plasmid cloning or western blotting, etc), and experimental design in biology and/or neuroscience (ePhys or calcium imaging, etc) and coding (Matlab, R, Julia, or Python); excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to analyze data and present it in a format suitable for publication; motivation, high level of organization, and creativity; ability to function effectively in a team-oriented environment; and ability to balance the demands of an immersive research project with basic lab managerial tasks. PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, Computer Science, Systems Biology, or related field; or solid quantitative and/or computing skills. Job #24707-4
