Job Summary

We are seeking an entry level technician to join our NIH-sponsored Animal Phenotyping Core within the Michigan Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Center (MMPC-Live).

Responsibilities*

The candidate will be responsible for conducting in vivo and in vitro physiology, pharmacology, and behavioral experiments in rodent models of metabolic and neurobehavioral disorders. He/she will evaluate metabolic phenotypes in mice or rats, either independently or as part of a team. Specific duties include performing routine dosing and blood sampling, assessing whole-body energy expenditure, and studying glucose and lipid metabolism using 3H- and 14C-labeled tracers. Additionally, the candidate will conduct behavioral tests in mice or rats using both standardized and customized methodologies. Hands-on experience with rodent handling, including feeding, dosing, and husbandry, is essential. A strong enthusiasm for the work, the ability to learn quickly, and the flexibility to take on some weekend assignments are required.

The candidate will work closely with the lab manager and senior lab members to conduct research projects, collect and analyze data, and provide support for the day-to-day housekeeping of the laboratory, including maintaining records of study protocols, equipment, and facilities. Promotions will be determined based on the candidate's job responsibilities and demonstrated performance, irrespective of their duration of employment.

Required Qualifications*

A bachelor's degree in biology or a related field is preferred. 

The role requires a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Work Schedule

M-F, 8 hour/days, with some weekends as needed.

Background Screening
