Transportation / Traffic Associate - Senior Level

Job Description

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront and transportation infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Senior Transportation / Traffic Associate to join our California Transportation Group. This role will be the project lead for a variety of transportation projects, roadway, municipal, port, and/or rail design projects. The right candidate will develop plans for projects across the state, US and potentially internationally. They will need to be familiar with a variety of surface transportation engineering type projects, has permitting experience and a strong existing professional network with municipal, state and/or federal DOT or regulatory agency staff.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform project design and support management tasks for surface transportation projects from conceptual to final design.
  • Develop preliminary cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages for candidate transportation projects.
  • Develop design scope of services design-build, design-build highway projects and/or templates for assigned projects.
  • Maintain and establish working relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, CALTRANS and state clients, as well as private clients
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing conceptual design plans, including but not limited to roadway, bridge projects, cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans, identifying additional right of way needs and potential permitting requirements.
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action when needed.

Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Civil, Transportation, or related engineering degree; required
  • 10+ years' experience in transportation / traffic engineering design projects; required
  • Professional Engineer license (PE) in CA; preferred
  • Required software experience including:
    • Microstation
    • AutoCAD
    • AGi32
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Availability and willingness to travel
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

$110,000 to $160,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California markets.

Physical requirements:

Work is generally performed in an office or client office setting. Ability to use standard office equipment is required. On occasion may travel to another office in the state.
