Job Description
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL REPORTING, Finance, Accounting, and Controls, will lead, manage, and oversee all accounting operations, focusing on cost accounting, financial reporting, and compliance for Campus Services and Stewardship (CSS) areas; ensure the integrity of financial records, maintain strong internal controls, and provide accurate financial information to support CSS’s strategic goals; and supervise daily accounting activities, optimize accounting processes, and collaborate closely with the Director of Finance and Administration and area directors as well as with MIT central administration.

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a minimum of ten years of progressive accounting experience, including three or more years in a leadership role within facilities management, construction, or similar environments; proven ability to manage and develop accounting teams effectively, with solid interpersonal and communication skills; self-starter who thrives in dynamic environments, identifies improvement areas, and implements practical solutions; demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and deliver timely, accurate financial information; ability to develop high-level strategies while managing detailed tasks, with a willingness to be hands-on when needed; solid experience in internal controls, audits, and regulatory compliance; ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across the organization; advanced knowledge of accounting concepts, financial systems, GAAP, cost accounting, and financial reporting; proficiency with ERP systems, databases, spreadsheets, and other financial tools; solid analytical mindset for interpreting financial data and assessing cost structures; demonstrated organizational skills, discretion, and the ability to manage confidential matters effectively. PREFFERRED: Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or MBA; CPA; MIT experience; and knowledge of MIT financial policies, procedures, and operational systems. Job #24638-12
