Primary Purpose
This position will provide tax expertise for specific functional or business tax activities. In general, a Tax Analyst will: (1) complete filing requirements and financial statement tax disclosures on a timely and accurate basis for the regulated and unregulated businesses, (2) assist in the tax and/or financial statement audits of the company and its subsidiaries, (3) analyze and quantify any tax impact to the company of current tax law and proposed tax legislation, (4) research tax positions under the direction and guidance of senior tax members, and (5) identify favorable or simplified alternative reporting positions for assigned entities and tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities
Incumbents will focus on aspects of both Tax Accounting and Tax Compliance.
Responsibilities are as follows for each specialty:
- Prepares tax returns and estimated tax payments, including corporations, partnerships, exempt organizations, trusts, pension plans and limited liability companies.
- Performs tax accounting (ASC 740) for the company and its subsidiaries, including financial statement and regulatory tax disclosures.
- Calculates tax adjustments (e.g., determining book/tax differences and permanent and temporary differences) for the financial forecasting and strategic planning for entities and projects.
- Maintains awareness of existing and emerging tax laws, GAAP, and SEC regulations, particularly to how they apply to assigned entities and tasks, including researching and quantifying any impact to the company's financial statements.
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the industry and the business; and develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders.
- Identifies, researches, quantifies, and effectively communicates tax accounting treatment for the tax provision, planning strategies and income tax positions taken on the tax returns for assigned entities and projects.
- Responds to the financial statement auditor's and taxing authority, auditor's information data requests and notice of proposed adjustments to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
