This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at ACTRI in La Jolla and remote.
UC San Diego Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences (RMAS) is a leading global research center related to advanced radiation technologies. RMAS is home to internationally recognized faculty from across oncology and related fields. Our principal Investigators (PIs) at RMAS are leading groundbreaking research in basic science, imaging, retrospective outcomes research using data science techniques, and clinical trials testing new treatments for people affected by cancer.
The Department of Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences (RMAS) has a strong commitment to research in a wide variety of disciplines including health outcomes and equity, health services, basic science, radiobiology, imaging, technology development and implementation, clinical trials, education, and systems engineering and design. RMAS researchers are funded by multiple societies and organizations including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Department of Defense (DOD), American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).
The Center for Health Equity Education & Research (CHEER), within RMAS, is an interdisciplinary group of scientists, clinicians, and community partners that aims to achieve optimal health outcomes for all individuals diagnosed with cancer by working to eliminate disparities among underserved and underrepresented communities. The mission of CHEER is to facilitate transformative research focused on health equity and to foster an educational environment aimed at improving health equity among under-represented and under-served populations. Key to fulfilling the CHEER mission is building strong partnerships throughout the community, working to support cancer health equity initiatives, advance health equity efforts within our region and nation, and enable our mentees, students, fellows, and faculty to advance health equity through their work.
Under the direction of clinical faculty and Principal Investigators, the incumbent will learn to gather, analyze, prepare, and input patient related outcomes associated with clinical research into the health services research database for their associated research group within the Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences (RMAS). The Research Data Analyst will assist with applying software-based analytical programs that will be used to compute and present statistical results to department leadership, regulatory oversight committees, and publication committees.
Additional responsibilities may include: preparing for weekly team meetings with study investigators and staff, attending education sessions, assisting with subject data collection and entry, assisting with data analyses, and contributing to publications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSFour years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area.
Acquiring knowledge of research function. Acquiring ability to perform research analysis duties.
Acquiring statistical analysis, systems programming, and database design skills to perform research analysis duties.
Ability to effectively manage time and see assigned parts of projects through to completion on deadline.
Basic consultation and communication skills.
Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word).
Master's degree in related area.
Prior experience working in a research group.
Experience in public health or clinical research.
Experience conducting medical chart review.
Proficiency in navigating databases and developing workflows for creating datasets suitable for statistical analysis.
Knowledge of quantitative data analytic techniques. Proficiency in common statistical techniques including but not limited to survival analysis, regression modelling, and chi squared test, with accompanying graphing experience.
Background in programming and data analytic software including R, SAS, SQL, and Python.
Demonstrated experience in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to various research questions.
Prior experience working with large databases including VA/VINCI, SEER, SEER-Medicare, electronic health record (EHR) and/or claims data.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $63,800 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $30.56 - $53.45
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
