This is a full time, salaried position. The histology lab is open 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. Includes $5k retention incentive and $8k relocation for eligible new hires.

The Scripps Health Histology Lab services all our Scripps Health locations. Located on the 4th floor of the Poole building, the lab features stunning views of La Jolla, state-of-the-art equipment and digital pathology workflows. The Histology Manager will oversee 30+ team members that make up both the histology and digital pathology teams, supporting 30+ pathologists systemwide.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversight and leadership of the activities and functions of Histology and Digital Pathology related services.
- Provide expertise in all areas of the department to include, but not limited to: H&E, special stains, Immunohistochemistry, Immunofluorescent, and CISH staining.
- Participate in department strategic planning and contributes to success through effectively communicating goals and expectations to staff.
- Ensure effective use of system resources.
- Serve as reference to staff, Pathologists, and others in laboratory leadership.
- Ensure expenses do not exceed budget.
- Participate in standards of practice and process improvement activities.
- Oversee staffing matrices and possesses authority to hire, conduct performance evaluations, and discipline employees.
- Ensure policy and procedures are followed by staff.
- Ensure compliance with all regulating agencies.
- Responsible for day to day laboratory operations for histology related services serving multiple hospitals and clinics.
- Participate in system committees regarding laboratory services and improvements.

- Must remain in original department/specialty
- Must remain in original Job Title
- Transfers to other locations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may result in forfeiting remaining incentive bonus unless specifically noted in your offer letter.
Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
- Bachelor's degree plus 5 years experience in a histology laboratory, at least 1 of which in leadership.
Required Certification/Registration:
- Histotechnician, HT(ASCP) or Histotechnologist, HTL(ASCP)
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
- Master's degree
- QIHC(ASCP) certification
- CAP inspection experience
- Hospital or clinical lab experience
