Research Program Assistant

Job Description

The Department of Mental Health is seeking Research Program Assistants for a project within the Center for Prevention and Early Intervention. Candidates will be required to assist in the recruitment of participants, as well as the collection of quantitative and qualitative data obtained through interviews with the preteens and their parents enrolled in the study. Successful candidates will be responsible for participating in and passing all training assessments to continue with employment.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Research Program Assistant will be responsible for verifying and logging confidential data into a centralized database and communicating with the multiple participants around the preteen and parent interviews.
  • Candidates will also meet regularly with the research team as part of daily debriefing meetings.
  • Candidates will maintain good working knowledge of all assigned study protocols and reporting requirements.
  • They will maintain compliance with IRB and Certificate of Confidentiality regulations.
  • Candidates will be expected to collaborate with Center investigators and leadership staff to efficiently move forward the Center’s research projects and proposals.
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required.
  • The candidates will be responsible for their travel to and from participant’s locations throughout the study.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent, with some college courses preferred.
  • Some related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with confidential data.
  • A successful candidate will have a working knowledge of trauma-informed interview practices.
  • Experience interviewing pre-teens; as well as discussing suicidal ideations and behaviors is preferred.
  • Proficiency with laptops, tablets, computers, and MS Office applications.
  • Conducting interviews with preteens and their parents is preferred but not required.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • BA/BS Degree.
  • Must clear Johns Hopkins and Baltimore City Public Schools criminal background and finger-printing checks.
  • Must be willing to travel in and around the Baltimore metropolitan area as needed.

Starting Salary Range: $15.40 - $23.25 HRLY ($23,166 targeted; Commensurate with experience) 
Employee group: Casual / On Call 
Schedule: Evening hours during regular work week and day time hours on weekends 
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
