Educational Consultant

Job Description

We are seeking a Program Coordinator - Professional Learning. This position serves as an on-site coach, providing weekly support to identified schools in Dover, Delaware. This grant-funded project is the result of a cooperative agreement between the JHU School of Education Center for Technology in Education (CTE) and the Capital School District. Since July 2019, members of the Johns Hopkins University School of Education have partnered with the Capital School District to support the improvement of special education services in the district. The coach plays a pivotal role in ensuring project goals and objectives are met in target schools, primarily school staff’s ability to create inclusive and supportive learning experiences for students with disabilities in their Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site coaching and support to teachers, support staff, and administrators in IEP development, IEP implementation, and co-teaching.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a monitoring structure which measures fidelity of IEP development and implementation.
  • Support baseline data collection on IEP development and implementation quality at two elementary schools.
  • Provide on-site coaching and support teachers, support staff, and administrators to effectively implement evidence-based strategies with fidelity, to improve academic and/or behavior outcomes for students with disabilities.
  • Assist in establishing high-performing implementation teams in target schools, using research-based protocols.
  • Participate in monthly School Implementation Team meetings for each target school.
  • Participate in monthly Grant Implementation Team meetings to ensure the project is proceeding as scheduled.
  • Collaborate with JHU project team members to ensure consistency and effective implementation of grant deliverables over the school year.


Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Evidence of a commitment to equity and inclusion, including for students with disabilities or those at risk.
  • Strong decision-making skills and leadership capabilities, including the ability to provide real-time support to address problems of practice in schools.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations, with an emphasis on how to translate these for effective implementation and to support student learning.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop trusting relationships with mentees and other colleagues in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, applied through both face-to-face interactions and telework approaches.
  • Strong technology skills, including effective facilitation and participation of virtual meetings; use of technology to document recommendations, and conduct online follow up to site visits.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree required.
  • Two years of experience required.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in education, special education, or a closely related field.
  • Direct experience in K-12 schools, in the role(s) of teacher, related service provider, and/or school administrator.
  • Experience providing direct support, professional development, or teacher preparation in special education; including topics related to inclusive practices, classroom management, behavioral interventions and supports, IEP development, and co-teaching.
  • Formal or informal experience coaching educators, support professionals, and/or school administrators to provide special education services in schools.
