Job Summary
The Periprocedural Safety and Quality Improvement Program (PSQIP) encompasses a diverse set of initiatives to ensure that the procedural care delivered by the University of Medicine Health clinical teams is of the highest quality. This program provides oversight of patient safety and quality improvement work across all operating rooms and procedural areas covering the span of the University of Michigan Health Academic Medical Center.
As part of the larger PSQIP team, the Clinical Information Analyst will be assigned to lead specific initiatives requiring in depth chart review and extensive clinical knowledge. The Clinical Information Analyst will be responsible for gathering patient-level data to understand and validate quality measure performance. Goals of work will be focused on patient safety and quality improvement. The incumbent will summarize data and performance analyzed to prepare visualizations for communication to operational and clinical stakeholders across the periprocedural environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with healthcare quality improvement practices to recommend innovative yet practical solutions to leaders and clinical teams.
Once trained, the PSQIP Clinical Information Analyst will be a knowledgeable partner with in-depth knowledge of roles, responsibilities, and workflows within the operating rooms and procedural areas and an active partner in development of solutions to quality and safety challenges. The PSQIP Clinical Information Analyst will understand OR and procedural area serious safety events (SSEs), Surgical Site Infections (SSIs) and surgery related Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs) and Healthcare Acquired Conditions (HACs).
This is a senior level position with possible intermediate level entry, and reports to the Manager of PSQIP. The primary responsibilities of this position are to perform accurate and timely chart reviews for their assigned area of responsibility, creating standard and ad hoc reports for stakeholders, medical, nursing, and quality leadership. The candidate collaborates directly with health system leaders, care providers, and members of multidisciplinary teams to improve the quality of patient care by providing clinical expertise and knowledge of clinical quality indicators, processes, and outcomes. This role also provides consultation services and provides recommendations for performance improvement and quality initiatives.
