Under general supervision of the department leadership and registered nurses in the assigned department, the Senior Vocational Nurse performs on a regular basis the full range of patient care activities in support of patient care. This includes, but not limited to, prioritizing and assisting in patient triage processing, preparation and assistance with patientexaminations, administering medications, drawing blood, collecting and preparing laboratory tests, reviewing information with patients and families, and other patient care support as required. Assigned to more complex tasks, including assisting with training and validation of competencies of LVN and staff training. Position requires initiative, ability to prioritize critical demands, ability to work in a team environment and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
Additionally, performs clinic activity requiring specific knowledge and training in Point of Care Testing (POCT) and support, as outlined within business and professions code of the State of California, The Joint Commission, and all UCSD Health policies and procedures. Duties include but are not limited to: assisting with troubleshooting POCT devices, maintenance of equipment and data management, and ordering reagents and other supplies as required. This position will participate in other patient or clinic flow support as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSLicensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) issued by the state of California.
Certification in Intravenous Therapy issued by the state of California (LVN IV).
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
A minimum of two (2) years of LVN experience.
Knowledge of universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics.
Ability to take initiative, prioritize critical demands, exercise independent judgment, and work in a team environment.
Two (2+) or more years of experience in an ambulatory setting.
Epic or EMR experience.
Oncology experience.
Point of Care Testing (POCT) experience.
Infusion Center experience.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $71,410 - $88,782 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $34.20 - $42.52
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
