Job Description

Under direction, the Clinical/Surgical Coordinator provides senior-level administrative and clinical coordination support to faculty in the Division of Neurosurgery in their clinical, service, administrative, teaching and research activities.
Managing all patient-related affairs and acting as patient liaison by fielding questions, scheduling appointments/surgeries, and arranging for clinic/hospital admissions. Attend clinic with supporting surgeon on clinic days. Complete disability paperwork for patients.
Responsible for coordinating and executing projects, independently composing correspondence, managing complex appointment calendar and travel schedule, and serving as liaison with constituents on behalf of Division faculty.
Prepare, oversee and authorize payment authorizations, purchase orders and travel for Division faculty. Coordinate medical staff privileging and oversee maintenance of licensing (i.e., medical, DEA, etc.). Coordinate preparation of academic review and merit files.
Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThree (3) years of relevant experience.
Knowledge of third-party payors including federal, state and private health plans.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in a health care environment.
Knowledge of medical terminology as well as neurosurgical terminology.
Knowledge of diagnostic and laboratory procedures.
Skill at interpreting medical charts/records and experience in abstracting data from medical records.
Experience with patient interviewing techniques and evaluation of demographic information, sponsorship, authorizations, and funding sources and options.
Experience in the triage and coordination of patients seeking urgent, emergency, outpatient, inpatient care, from initial access to discharge, for patients in a diverse population with varying care settings through interpretation and review of tests, procedures and clinic consult notes and reports.
Experience in providing patient counseling and instruction.
Demonstrated ability to act on initiative and exercise independent judgment in executing a wide variety of functions and maintaining absolute reliability in handling confidential and sensitive matters.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify problems and develop innovative solutions.
Excellent interpersonal, as well as written and verbal communication skills (using grammatically correct written English and accurate typing) to interact with a variety of personalities at all levels of the organization, exercising tact, mature judgment, diplomacy, and flexibility to promote positive working relationships and job effectiveness.
Skill at negotiating with various personalities and developing internal and external network of contacts.
Strong time management, organizational, and follow up skills to prioritize and complete tasks and projects within set timelines.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate and staff work center or clinics for maximum efficiency and work flow.
Experience in planning, coordinating, and directing the work of subordinate staff.
Ability to coach and train subordinates; willingness to share information and serve as a mentor.
Strong management and leadership skills and ability to take responsibility for assigned areas, and to gain the confidence of staff, clients and colleagues.
Demonstrated ability and knowledge of using computer software applications including Medi-Soft Patient Scheduling, Medi-Soft Accounting,MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, MS Power Point, MS Outlook, and web browsers to streamline work for effectiveness and efficiency.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $54,664 - $67,944 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $26.18 - $32.54
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
