Under general supervision, the New Grad RN identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations. Directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned. Promotes compliance and support of policies. Achieves trust in professional collegial relationships.

This is our PCU Nursing New Graduate posting, the following units will be participating:

  • Hillcrest 7 PCU-1 opening; 7 West is a 23-bed acute care Progressive Care Unit at UC San Diego Health's Hillcrest Campus. It provides care for a diverse population of high-acuity medical-surgical patients and offers a 6-bed direct observation room for more critically ill patients requiring closer monitoring.
  • Hillcrest 8 PCU-1 opening; The 8th floor at Hillcrest Medical Center treats a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions such as tuberculosis infection, COPD, sickle-cell crisis, cellulitis and diabetes. Nurses on this unit often have the opportunity to become well-versed in the treatment of liver and kidney diseases, COPD, diabetes and other chronic medical conditions. We offer opportunities for professional growth, continued learning and career development. The wide variety of patients makes working here both rewarding and challenging.
  • Hillcrest 11 E/W PCU -2 openings; The Surgical PCU at UC San Diego Health's Hillcrest Medical Center is at the forefront of high-quality patient care and service. It is a unique unit that advocates for patient safety and satisfaction through transformational leadership, innovation, and empowerment of the professional nurse.
  • Thornton 2 West IMU/PCU-1 opening; Thornton 2 West is a 27-bed Progressive Care Unit that specializes in the care of Cystic Fibrosis, Post Gastric Sleeve, Stroke, Epilepsy, Pre and Post lung transplant patients, general surgery and medicine patients. 2 West offers a great foundation of knowledge and innovation as our nurses are trained to care for a wide array of patient populations. The dynamic nature of the unit fosters an environment that encourages professional development.
  • La Jolla Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center 4AB PCU-2 openings; Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center is the region's first academic-based facility to combine all heart and vascular-related services, programs and technology under one roof. The new technologies, techniques and treatments we develop at UC San Diego Health are setting new standards in vascular and cardiac care - for our patients, and for the world.
  • La Jolla Emergency Department Inpatient (EDIP)-2 openings; EDIP provides total patient care for patients who are admitted, transitioning from Emergency Department to Inpatient, along with our Emergency Department Observation patients. This includes IMU/PCU, Telemetry, and MedSurg Level of Care. Our nurses are trained to care for wide array of diagnosis (e.g. cardiac, neuro, oncology, transplant, respiratory, surgical, and general medical) and not limited to specific specialty.

While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.

  • California RN license by start date. Depending on applicant pool, may consider interim permits.

  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Must have less than six (6) months of working RN experience.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSN.
  • Prior clinical work experience in specialty area.
  • Externship (outside of required clinical hours) on a PCU unit.
  • Prior UCSD experience.
  • Bilingual.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours, days of the week, shifts, and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $122,754 - $122,754 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $58.79 - $58.79

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
