Contingent on course offerings and student demand, to begin approximately Fall 2025, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.  

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, design, deliver, update and assess instruction in a variety of Information Technology (ITS), Information and Computer Science (ICS), and Business (BUS) courses, such as but not limited to courses in programming logic, programming with computer languages (such as C#, Python, and Java), Database Administration and Development, Data Analytics and R programming Language, Cybersecurity, and Mathematics for Business majors.

  • Develop and/or update course curriculum including the content and materials, and teaching and assessment strategies and methods to:

  1. improve student attainment of learning outcomes;

  2. address the learning needs of the college's diverse student population;

  3. integrate problem solving, critical thinking, writing and communication skills into course content, as appropriate;

  4. use technology to support instruction.

  • Plan, organize, and independently carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments.

  • Perform other teaching-related duties that include, but are not limited to, preparing course syllabi, and maintaining office hours for face-to-face, hybrid, and online classes (minimum one office hour per week per three-credit class).

  • Teaching duties and responsibilities may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online internet-based classes, evening and weekend classes, noncredit classes, and teaching at off-campus sites. Non-teaching duties include:

  1. working collegially and effectively with others to provide service to the IT program, BLT department and college;

  2. engaging in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise;

  3. engaging in professional development;

  4. engaging in professional or scholarly activities related to one's discipline or teaching;

  5. performing related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master's in Information and Computer Sciences (ICS); OR

  2. Master's in Business with coursework in business computer applications; OR

  3. Master's in Education Technology with coursework in computer applications; OR

  4. Bachelor's in Information and Computer Science AND 3 years of related work experience; OR

  5. Bachelor's in Business with coursework in business computer applications AND 3 years of related work experience; OR

  6. Bachelor's in any field AND 5 years of related work experience including training; OR

  7. Associate degree in Business with some coursework in business computer applications AND 5 years of related work experience including training; OR

  8. 15 college credits in Business with some coursework in business computer applications AND 7 years of related work experience including training; OR

  9. Master recognition by Business Community in computer applications AND 10 years of related work experience including training;

Desirable Qualifications 

  1. Successful teaching at the post-secondary level as substantiated by student and peer assessments. 

  2. Evidence of ability to work in a collegial manner with peers, department chairs, and administrators.

  3. Evidence of experience integrating reading, writing, speaking, technology, and critical thinking skills, and team work in the teaching of information technology.

  4. Ability to write clear prose as substantiated by samples/publications/on-site writing performance.

  5. Successful use of technology to support instruction inside and outside of the traditional classroom.

  6. Commitment to the mission and values of the community college system with its open-door and diverse multicultural populations.

  7. Demonstrated ability to initiate, execute, and complete projects within deadlines, including setting specific objectives and measuring results.

  8. Significant, extensive and current experiences in the following technologies:

    1. Windows and Microsoft Office application packages,

    2. Database design and programming in the client-server enterprise environment,

    3. Web application design and development,

    4. Development and/or implementation of LANs/WANs using current networking devices (CISCO preferred) such as switches, routers, firewalls, etc.

    5. Mobile device application development;

    6. Integrated Development Environments (IDEs, e.g., Visual Studio, Eclipse, or Netbeans) with expertise in one or more of the following programming languages: a) C#, b) Java, c) Python, or d) C++;

    7. Data analytics including machine learning using Rand Python;

    8. Cloud, virtual machine and network usage, development and security;

    9. Cybersecurity and Incident Response.

  9. Demonstrated knowledge of application security issues and proficiency with secure programming and application development practices. Advanced certifications in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance (CISSP, CASP, GIAC, etc.) with professional high tech industry involvement.

  10. Evidence of commitment to Kapi‘olani Community College’s vision of positioning itself as a model indigenous serving institution whose graduates strengthen the social, economic, and sustainable advancement of Hawai‘i and the world.
