Position Summary
Poseida is seeking a highly motivated and talented Data Scientist to join the Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) team within the Process Development department. As part of the MSAT Data Science group, you will support critical development/manufacturing pathways with the goal of swiftly advancing biological and cell-based entities to the market. You will design and implement our MSAT Data Lake. You will provide leadership and guidance for projects and activities aimed at increasing understanding of manufacturing processes, through data trending, visualizations, investigation, modeling and sound statistical analysis. You will plan, document, and execute data analyses for both internal and external manufacturing operations to consistently evaluate performance, and assist in devising experimental strategies for cross functional development teams. These activities establish the conditions essential for safety, efficacy, and marketability of biological/cell-derived products. Through your comprehensive knowledge of principles, concepts, and theories of the discipline, you will also work towards advancing new concepts and methodologies that can improve internal business processes.
Responsibilities
These may include but are not limited to:
- Daily hands-on support of?non-clinical?statistical analysis and data modeling?that contributes?to the overall MSAT goals; offer proactive advice, service and technical expertise upon request.
- Provide essential statistical support to the science and technology lines within the broader operations departments: including Manufacturing, Analytical Development, Quality and Regulatory.
- Solid understanding and use of statistical principles and practices to solve a range of complex problems to improve manufacturing success rates in real-time, provide retrospective data analysis for process improvements, and provide input for complex manufacturing investigations.?
- Develop or adapt?existing and innovative methods and?techniques for data collection, data configuration, data analysis and/or data modeling, to continuously?increase effectiveness and efficiency of relevant statistical methods and techniques to contribute to process improvement.?
- Conduct analyses and share data-driven insights by synthesizing the impact of initiatives led by project teams
- Work in close collaboration with Poseida internal Statistical and Data Sciences team (SDS) to generate statistical models for predicting manufacturing outcomes and overall patient response.
- Collaborate with Scientists/Engineers to understand the technical business application and apply modelling techniques to improve organizational effectiveness and decision-making quality.
- Deliver training on statistical concepts; translate and explain complex statistical methods and findings to a non-statistician.
- Demonstrate initiative to solve problems in biopharmaceutical manufacturing by influencing collaborators and improving methods/workflows while ensuring sound statistical thinking, techniques, and predictive models are employed.
- Use statistical and business acumen to prepare both internal and external reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
- Ensure that all study and project level statistical activities are conducted in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and internal company standards and best practices.
- Pursue business-related research interests and represent Poseida externally.
Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ph.D. with 0-2 years' experience (or M.S./B.S with equivalent years of experience) in a relevant scientific, engineering, or mathematical discipline (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics). Master's and Bachelor's degrees would also require training and/or relevant coursework in data sciences, statistics, or a similar field of study.
- Statistical knowledge through coursework and/or demonstrated statistical application in descriptive and inferential statistics, general linear models, statistical experimental design, and quality control.
- Sound computational skills: JMP, R, S+, or equivalent, and knowledge of a variety of commercial packages.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills in explaining complex statistical methods, analyses, and finding to non-statisticians.
- Good team player with demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships within and across sites with customers and partners.
- Analytical mindset with demonstrated ability to work through complex, ambiguous problems using data.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, Power BI, Oracle, and Java is ideal for this role.
- Experience with Database Architecture, Design, and Management
- Experience building/operating data pipelines, performing ETLs of large data sets preferred.
- Experience with one or more DB technologies: SQL/SQL-like DBs, Snowflake/Redshift, Azure Data Lakes and Blobs, AWS S3, or information management systems.
- Utilize machine learning to help understand data and to provide guidance for future action.
- Prior experience working in biopharmaceutical R&D and/or manufacturing/MSAT is preferred.
- Proven track record of integrating statistical techniques and solutions into pharmaceutical / engineering applications to achieve business results.
- Statistical experience in a regulated scientific environment and knowledge of FDA, ICH guidance is a plus
- Experience with OSI PI/OPC Management Software is a plus
- Experience with ELNs: Benchling, Labvantage, etc. is a plus
- The flexibility to balance many projects and customers simultaneously.
- The ability to be independent and learn new skills quickly.
- The aptitude to identify and understand relevant scientific literature and apply knowledge gained from these sources.
Data Scientist, Process Development Salary Range: $113,000 to $135,000
The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience with the industry, education, geographic location, etc.
