Practice Innovation Specialist

Cooley is seeking a Practice Innovation Specialist to join the Knowledge Management & Innovation team within the IS department.

Position summary: Cooley Information Services (IS) embraces a culture of customer service excellence and all members of the department are expected to move this agenda forward. To that end, the Practice Innovation Specialist is expected to recognize that the Cooley IS department is a service organization first and foremost and will be evaluated on this requirement equal in importance to the technical or operational responsibilities outlined later in this document.

Working directly with the firm's practitioners across offices and practice areas, and other members of the Practice Innovation Services team, in collaboration with the other Knowledge Management and Information Services teams generally, the Practice Innovation Specialist will investigate design and facilitate development of legal technology solutions. This role is an integral part of the Knowledge Management and Innovation team and reports to the Practice Innovation Manager. The role works closely with Security and Information Governance, Data and Software Development, Legal Service Delivery and Legal Competitive & Enterprise Intelligence teams. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities: Under the direction of the Practice Innovation Manager and Associate Director of Practice Innovation Services:

  • Work with all stakeholders to assess requirements of new product or service needs in furtherance of practice group objectives
  • Research and evaluate technological tools and design processes that promote productivity and quality
  • Facilitate knowledge capture and assist in the management of knowledge repositories and systems, such as Microsoft Teams, Workfront and Azure DevOps
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends related to the business and technology of law
  • Create and maintain project planning documentation, including business end-user requirements, solution design summaries, end to end user, administrative and data workflows
  • Lead user acceptance testing and feedback gathering processes user acceptance testing
  • Create and present engaging PowerPoints with project updates and milestones to business stakeholders
  • Communicate business requirements to development team and assist in the creation and management of user stories, tasks and epics in Azure DevOps
  • Make product decisions based on end user feedback from business requirements, as well as guidelines from KMPI leadership
  • Lead weekly status calls and daily stand ups where appropriate during software development
  • Coordinate product launch requirements, including but not limited to: the delivery of end user training and development of training and support documentation.
  • All other duties as assigned or required


Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • 4+ years experience with requirements gathering and assessment, solutions evaluation, and leading user testing and feedback processes, ideally in a legal business context
  • Experience engaging with end-users to gather feedback, observe and map routines and processes
  • Experience with presenting to stakeholders using PowerPoint and other related tools
  • Experience with making product development decisions based on requirements
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Azure DevOps, Microsoft Teams, Adobe Workfront, SharePoint
  • Working knowledge of business analysis, product management, knowledge management, information systems or other-related field
  • Awareness of legal concepts related to the business of the Firm and the legal industry

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree, JD
  • Experience working as a business-side product manager
  • Awareness of data strategy concepts
  • Experience working in a legal services environment with preference to experience in AMLAW 200 law firm or in-house legal department with greater than 50 attorneys

The expected annual pay range for this position with a work schedule of 40 hours per week is $100,000 - $145,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
