Job Description:

Interested in providing campus safety to a Community College?

SVCC is seeking a Chief of Police to provide campus safety through coordinated police operations, communication with stakeholders, strategically allocating resources, and complying with all regulations.

Some of the duties include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Coordinate and manage the department's police and public safety program at all Southside Virginia Community College locations
  • Develop and provide appropriate personnel training to ensure the college is proactive and compliant with public safety requirements
  • Make independent decisions to ensure continuity of police services
  • Manage operations and provide supervision of personnel
  • Establish departmental goals and objectives
  • Maintain positive relationships with other law enforcement agencies
  • Build collaborative relations with other college departments
  • Serve as Emergency Coordination Officer
  • Keep college administration informed of major issues
  • Provide safety and security services to the college community
  • Enforce laws and college policies

 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to function under stress
  • Valid driver’s license
  • CPR/First Aid / AED certified
  • Effective communication skills
  • Supervisory and management experience in law enforcement
  • Budget and expense management knowledge
  • Working knowledge of law enforcement
    procedures and techniques
  • Customer service and community policing knowledge
  • Firearm and vehicle operation skills
  • Ability to give instructions and explain policies
  • Report writing capability
  • Clean criminal background check
  • Certification as a police officer
  • 5 years of supervisory law enforcement experience.
  • Training in law enforcement management and crisis response
  • Personnel management experience
  • Assist students, staff, faculty and visitors as needed
  • Experience working with racially, economically and age-diverse individuals
 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a multi-location environment preferred
  • Academic environment experience preferred
  • VCIN / NCIC certification preferred
  • Basic computer, records management, and NIMS / ICS knowledge preferred
