ABOUT YOU
We are seeking an additional staff position to add to our growing team of amazing people. This new position will be based in the Boise office, where a work anywhere model is in place or potentially another location from within Idaho. Individuals will be provided equipment and support allowing them to maintain a remote workplace and generally work from the Boise office at least two days a week or more as needed and/or preferred.
ABOUT ICF
The Idaho Community Foundation works throughout Idaho to provide vehicles to help people achieve their philanthropic goals with an emphasis on caring for Idaho communities and nonprofits. These vehicles include charitable funds such as donor advised funds, scholarship funds and organization funds as well as community foundation affiliates, giving circles, community giving funds, field of interest funds and programs such as Idaho Gives, the Idaho Community Foundation Giving Station and others. The Idaho Community Foundation establishes and manages these philanthropic vehicles with the goal of making grants to nonprofits across the state. Our grantmaking, community impact work and relationships with local philanthropists have strengthened nonprofits, schools and communities in every Idaho county for more than 35 years.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position, working in conjunction with the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Development & Visibility Committee and Board of Directors (Board) develops and implements a comprehensive plan that achieves the Idaho Community Foundation’s (ICF) fundraising goals. This proactive plan includes the identification of prospects, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of existing donors. The plan utilizes the broad statewide connections of ICF’s present and past leadership as well as connections with existing fundholders, community leaders and professional advisors. This plan ties together each of the ICF’s philanthropic vehicles in order to build brand awareness, create first time donors and then provides strategies that strengthen and deepen donors’ relationship with ICF. This position works with staff and Board to develop and implement new philanthropic vehicles that ideally engage local people in raising funds that will benefit their own communities. This position works with staff to ensure that the operational infrastructure is in place in order to support ICF’s fundraising plan. It is based in our Boise, Idaho office, or potentially another location from within Idaho.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Five to seven years minimum in a senior development/fundraising position with a demonstrated history of success.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with integrated databases.
- Demonstrated experience in leading a team, this includes direct reports as well as experience in coordinating and partnering with other teams, volunteer leadership and community partners.
- An understanding of the philanthropic landscape of Idaho is preferred. An understanding of philanthropic vehicles (charitable funds) provided by community foundations is a bonus.
- Ability to develop, implement and manage a budget with a track record of success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops annual fundraising plan that enables ICF to achieve its development, grantmaking and programmatic goals.
- Manages a team of Philanthropic Advisors to proactively implement a fund development plan as well as the Donor Experience Coordinator to develop and implement a stewardship plan for existing donors, affiliates, giving circles as well as engages ICF leadership in the development process.
- Works closely with Marketing and Communications Manager, develops and implements philanthropic vehicles that provide a pathway for donors to develop deeper relationships with donors.
- Works closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager to develop a messaging and marketing plan to increase ICF’s name recognition and support the development plan.
- Works with the Vice President, Finance and Operations and Vice President, Programs to ensure that ICF’s development efforts compliment and are fully integrated with community impact programs, accounting, information technology and governance structure.
- Cultivates and supports a strong network of donors, volunteers, and community members to inform and educate ICF’s community impact activities.
- Maintains a visible community profile through serving on committees, engaging in professional development, and attending community events.
- Regularly travels throughout Idaho to work with staff, ICF leadership, partners and community leaders to implement the development plan.
- Serves on the ICF management team to help develop and advance ICF organizational goals.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES
- Experience effectively managing a team with a proven track record of building cohesion and results.
- Proven ability to develop and manage successful partnerships and new programs.
- Excellent customer service experience working with a wide breadth of customers with varying needs.
- Aptitude to learn about community foundations, the nonprofit community and develop appropriate marketing and messaging plans.
- Proven understanding of development and fundraising sectors.
- Excellent project, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills including the ability to articulate progress, concerns and recommendations.
- Ability to compose professional correspondence from notes, discussions or independently from knowledge of circumstances and policy.
- Ability to interact professionally, effectively and positively with a wide variety of people, including management, staff, donors and community leaders.
- Tact and diplomacy in addition to handling large amounts of confidential material with discretion and operating with independent judgement and initiative.
PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Experience providing support to multiple colleagues and coordinating projects.
- Demonstrate integrity, professional maturity and strong work ethic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft products with advanced skills in Teams and PowerPoint preferred.
- Knowledge of how to use and maximize Customer Relationship Management software.
