Research Specialist
Job Description
We are seeking a Research Specialist to perform sample preparation, mass spectrometry imaging and, and data analysis in the Applied Imaging Mass Spectrometry (AIMS) Core at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. The candidate will closely work with and support the users of the AIMS Core under the supervision of the AIMS Core directors.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Section frozen or formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues obtained from users onto conductive slides.
- Use a robotic sprayer to spray enzymes/matrix onto tissue sections.
- Set up mass spectrometry imaging experiments, perform histology stains, and perform imaging data analysis.
- Utilize SCiLS lab, iLAB, MATLAB, and statistical analysis methods and be knowledgeable about mass spectrometry imaging analysis.
- Prepare reports about the obtained results in PowerPoint and excel to be sent to other users.
- Interact frequently with AIMS Core users, requiring good people skills.
- Keep the AIMS Core facility clean, monitor inventory levels, order materials and supplies as needed.
- Maintain records of all experiments performed in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
- One year laboratory experience performing relevant techniques.
- Master's degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $17.11 - $29.90 HRLY ($45,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
