Position Summary
The Instructional Designer at Green River provides course design expertise to support academic programs and faculty development in all instructional modalities. The Instructional Designer supports faculty in the development and implementation of instructional tools and strategies to support meaningful, equitable, and high-quality learning experiences, provide full access for students from diverse backgrounds, and facilitate using and reviewing data in order to improve instruction and course design. The instructional designer is responsible for collaborative creation and implementation of professional learning and development programming to increase faculty knowledge around equity, student engagement, instruction, course design, pedagogy, and assessment leading to student success.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Position Responsibilities
Course design

Apply student-centered, evidence-based learning theory and best practices to course design work
-
Regularly implement, practice, and assess teaching and learning strategies to promote equity, diversity, inclusivity, anti-racism, and accessibility

Collaborate with faculty:
- on solutions-oriented course design in all modalities to provide equity-focused and evidence-based course consultations and support
- in creating course assessments, evaluations, and active learning experiences
- to implement universal design for learning into courses
- to improve instruction, course design, pedagogy, and assessment
Technology
-
Promote use of eLearning tools and methodologies that incorporate research based best practices, teaching guidelines, and standards

Learn, use, and teach best practices of Generative Artificial Intelligence in teaching and learning
PD
-
Assess faculty and student needs to coach faculty on developing anti-racist, diverse, and inclusive materials, resources, and learning activities to meet those needs

Design, develop, and deliver faculty professional development in a range of modalities to support the use of creative, innovative, and inclusive pedagogy and technology for student engagement and success

Support professional development days and in-service days for faculty in infusing EDI, technology, and best practices into teaching
Data
-
Support faculty assessment of student learning outcomes, facilitating the use of course and institutional data to improve mastery of learning and student completion

Facilitate data literacy through workshops, programs, or other professional development opportunities in coordination with IE or other areas as applicable
Accessibility
-
Assist faculty in the creation or remediation of instructional materials to make them accessible
Special Projects
-
Support development and maintenance of an EDI program for faculty on campus
-
Develop and maintain instructional design materials on departmental websites

Support the college’s work with COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) and other instructional initiatives
Communication and Collaboration
-
Collaborate on projects with faculty, instructional divisions, academic support services, or other departments on behalf of the eLearning department

Collaborate with the eLearning staff to meet the needs and expectations of faculty, students, and others involved in GRC's eLearning activities.

Support instructional initiatives at the level of the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and the state eLearning Council
Professional and Personal Development
-
Actively participates in continuing education and professional activities to maintain knowledge of eLearning technologies, professional development practices, accessibility, and instructional best practices.

Participates in college exempt staff activities, reviews, meetings, and trainings.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
-
Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field
-
Two years higher education teaching experience with at least one year of experience teaching online
-
Experience with instructional design and curriculum development incorporating technologies across all modalities of instruction
-
Experience with applying theories of teaching and learning to instructional technologies and assessment
-
Experience applying Universal design for Teaching and Learning (UDL) principles
-
Experience using major learning management systems such as Canvas
-
Demonstrated experience, expertise, cultural competencies, and commitment to equity in working with colleagues, students, and communities from diverse backgrounds and identities

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must have the ability to work at a computer for significant portions of work day

Frequent repetitive arm, hand, and finger motions during computer use

Work in an office or home setting with accompanying possible distractions

Must be able to maintain regular and predictable attendance

Work schedule: Monday-Friday, adjustable work hours, some weekend and evening work required
