Custodial/Maintenance-Copper Country Center
Job Description
Gogebic Community College seeks part-time candidates for the position of
Custodial/Maintenance staff located at the Copper Country Center, Houghton, MI. The wages
for this position are $17.35 and the approximate numbers of hours per week is from 15-20. The
position does include enrollment in the State of Michigan’s retirement plan. Cash in lieu of
health insurance is offered. A variety of cleaning and some maintenance within the offices and
classrooms at the Copper Country Center is an essential function of this position. Good
communication and customer skills are necessary. The successful candidate will also perform
routine grounds/outside keeping and some basic building maintenance.
It is important that there is recognition, acceptance, and adherence to the community college
mission and philosophy from our candidate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Cleans and sweeps offices and classrooms.
• Aid in the closing/lock-up of the center after evening classes.
• Shovels/sweeps outside areas and entrances to center.
• Empties wastebasket receptacles.
• Cleans restrooms and replenishes sanitary supplies.
• Cleans windows.
• Cleans desk and booth table surfaces and sitting areas.
• Assists in moving and arranging furniture and helps in the set-up and take down of for
meetings and events as needed.
• Paint as needed.
• Replaces light bulbs.
• Operates hand tools.
• Plans and performs minor repair of equipment in consultation with Supervisor and Leadman.
• Orders and maintains custodial supplies.
• Lifts and carries objects for staff; performs deliveries as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Driver’s License
• Knowledge of different cleaning and power tools.
• Organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

vision, and ability to adjust focus.
