Assistant Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator

Job Description

ASSISTANT ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND SAFETY (EHS) COORDINATOR, Mechanical Engineering (MechE), to assist with the day-to-day oversight of the EHS management system (EHS-MS), ensuring that EHS compliance and regulatory requirements are met and that MIT EHS best practices are followed.  The principal duties will include actively promoting a culture of safety, sharing EHS best practices, facilitate and monitoring compliance with EHS laws and regulations and best practice, recognizing and understanding the use of hazardous materials and how to conduct potentially hazardous activities which seeking approaches to reduce/avoid us of hazardous materials, and working with the EHS coordinator to serve as a resource to the MechE community.  Direction and assignments will be reviewed by and discussed with the EHS coordinator.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, EHS, or related discipline; at least three years of relevant experience; proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialized computer applications for EHS requirements; excellent organizational, administrative, problem-solving, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills; good judgment; goal-orientation; adaptability; and the ability to work alone or as part of a team in a highly research-oriented yet disciplined environment that requires frequent interaction with faculty, students, and research staff.  PREFERRED:  experience with semiconductor device fabrication, biology, and/or chemistry; lab experience in a professional setting; and proficiency with document and data management tools (e.g., Microsoft SharePoint sites, wikis, QuickBase).  Job #24267-7
