Job Description
RESEARCH/CLINICAL VETERINARIAN, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), to join ten other veterinarians who play a crucial role in fulfilling DCM’s mission to deliver the highest standards of animal care, welfare, and collaborative research support. Will provide broad clinical veterinary support across multiple facilities for multiple small and large animal species, depending on the candidate’s interests and the needs of the division as a whole; play an active role in; play an active role in animal model development and refinement; train and mentor postdoctoral fellows/veterinary technicians/research technicians/research staff; and contribute to the regulatory oversight of the program.
Opportunities for collaborative and/or independent research abound and will be encouraged for the interested candidate.
DCM serves as the primary resource for the care, development, and refinement of animal models within the MIT community, provides exceptional clinical medicine and surgical support, and ensures compliance for all animal-related research activities.
REQUIRED: DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school or equivalent training with ECFVG certification, license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state, and ability to work effectively as part of a team. PREFERRED: formal training in comparative medicine with diplomate status in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) or European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ECLAM) or at least two years’ experience practicing or training in veterinary medicine in a research setting; expertise and interest in rodent medicine, management, and surgery; experience in germ free facilities, aquatics, large animal anesthesia and surgery, and/or NHP medicine and management; and experience working collaboratively with researchers and mentoring students.
