SUMMARY

Provides material ordering and expediting support; coordinates inventory receipt, storage and distribution, and keeps accurate records.Reports to the General Supervisor, Assistant Manager, and Manager of Maintenance and Tool Control. Maintains contact with external vendors, NASSCO Supply Chain Management, Maintenance Supervision, and all internal customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Is responsible for prioritizing, tracking, and monitoring all material ordered for the maintenance department, and notifying Supervision of any changes that may cause an impact to scheduled work.
  • Coordinates with receiving, warehousing, and NASSCO Supply Chain Management team to mitigate any schedule impact problems because of late material.
  • Coordinates the shipping of material to both on-site and off-site locations
  • Utilize NASSCO's Maintenance Management System (MMS) to accomplish work order issuing/closing and PO placement.
  • Orders requested materials via MaintStar (MMS) requisitions or paper Requisitions.
  • Deals directly with vendors, suppliers, and sub-contractors to resolve material issues and expedite delivery to maintain schedule.
  • Monitor and assist in the collection and documentation of Hazardous Materials.
  • Coordinates planned maintenance schedules with customers to ensure a smooth service
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance Engineers on the entry and input of New Equipment Reports (NER's)
  • Collaborate with Facilities department, and Maintenance admin management on Asset Survey Requests (ASR's)

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school graduate or equivalent, plus at least one (1) years' experience in material handling processes.
  2. Knowledge of computerized material systems, material flow, ordering, expediting, and basic maintenance knowledge is required.
  3. Skill in blueprint reading and proficiency in oral and written communications is essential.
  4. Trade specific knowledge a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work primarily conducted in an office setting with good lighting.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 5% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments. The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 70% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering

Results directly affect Production's performance to schedule and budget by providing material information for proper production planning and by expediting in plant material processing.

PAYSCALE:

Material Support Technician $41,500 - $59,900

Material Support Technician I $48,200 - $71,400

Material Support Technician II $59,900 - $86,100

Material Support Technician III $77,200 - $99,900

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
