The Talent Services Department of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory has an opportunity for a Compensation & Classification Job Analyst to partner with the Compensation Manager and the Compensation team to create and administer a job architecture and role classification. You will be APL’s resident subject matter expert and point of contact to ensure compliance with complicated FLSA regulations, review all job requisitions prior to posting to ensure clarity and consistency of job duties, classification uniformity across APL, and create a framework to organize specialties by function and further define APL’s job classification definitions.

 

As the Compensation Job Analyst...

  • You will create a job architecture that provides a consistent approach to assignment of job levels, the specialty skills and capabilities that define roles, and organizes roles into job families and jobs.
  • You will research and administer Federal and state laws, such as the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act and state- and local-level pay transparency laws, to ensure that compensation programs are up-to-date and compliant. Prepare and present results of research and partner in implementing changes. Be APL’s resident subject matter expert and point of contact to ensure compliance with complicated FLSA regulations.
  • You will review all job requisitions prior to posting to ensure clarity and consistency of job duties, classification uniformity across APL, and compliance with FLSA requirements. This will create efficiencies when posting requisitions and refining APL’s job specialties, and enable additional insights into trends and analytics on hiring, retention, external market competitiveness, and workforce changes by jobs and specialties.
  • You will consult with supervisors and HR strategic partners in the interpretation and administration of base and bonus compensation programs to ensure alignment with lab strategy and compliance with audit and regulatory governance.
  • You will partner internally across TSX to design and develop tools, resources and training to increase collective knowledge and education on compensation policies, regulations and practices.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you ...

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent years of professional experience. 
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of compensation experience including experience building compensation structures and administration of the Fair Labor Standards Act. 
  • Are able to work independently or across teams on multiple projects with overlapping time frames and shifting priorities successfully.
  • Have strong MS Office with advanced/master Excel skills including formulas, charts, graphs, and pivot tables. Have strong technical skills to work with human resource information system.
  • Have analytical ability that enables you to extract and analyze data from written material, observation and communications, make statistical calculations, develop reports and systems to facilitate efficient decision-making.
  • Can think proactively, identify problems and solutions, and exhibit a high-level of self-initiative.
  • Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with all levels of staff and supervisors.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Have a Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Previous experience developing and implementing a job architecture.
  • Certification such as World@Work Certified Compensation Professional.
