Job Summary

The position will teach a combination of engineering lecture and lab classes each week, develop teaching and testing materials for classes and work with existing and develop new community service projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in engineering
  • Knowledge of general classroom and lab equipment, computers and computer software including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in physics
  • Doctorate in Engineering
  • College teaching experience

Essential Functions

  • Teach 15 semester hours of Engineering lecture and lab courses each Fall and Spring semester
  • Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook
  • Plan and organize lectures, utilizing research and reference materials
  • Develop syllabi and other learning aids
  • Ensure the accuracy of publications related to Engineering offerings
  • Identify and request needed instructional resources
  • Participate in the development of departmental budgets
  • Recommend textbooks and instructional materials to be used in the instructional program
  • Assist with the writing and development of proposals seeking funds or property for the Engineering/Physics Department as requested
  • Participate in student recruitment and advising
  • Serve on departmental, division and college-wide committees, as requested
  • Stay current with trends and innovations in the field
  • Serve as a resource person to the college and professional and educational communities
  • Maintain academic records as required by the college, accreditation agencies, and law
  • Develop goals and objectives for the Engineering department
  • Participate in graduation and other required official College functions
  • Submit required college reports, forms, and timely grading
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to move from office to classroom and/or lab occasionally
  • This position may require occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Duties indoors and some outdoors
  • Office, classroom, and laboratory setting
  • Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events

Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.

Min Salary

$55,045 per year

Max Salary

$67,275 per year

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
