Job Description/Summary:
As a member of the HR Benefits and Leave of Absence Team, the HR Generalist, Benefits, is responsible for the effective and efficient administration of the UCSF Benioff Children¿s Hospital¿s benefits programs and for providing support in the administration of the LOA and ADA programs.
This is a high-volume, highly visible role, and the incumbent must exhibit exceptional customer service skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling competing priorities. The incumbent must be very detail oriented.
Essential Functions:
- Benefits Administration:
- Using the Benefits Administration systems, manage enrollment, claims, and data while ensuring accuracy and compliance for various employee benefit programs. Maintain accurate and up-to-date data within HRIS and other relevant systems.
- Partner with the benefits team to conduct Open Enrollment.
- Process and reconcile benefits-related invoices.
- Process Life insurance claims, child support orders, and other information requests.
- Provide support for administrative tasks relating to all areas of benefits, including retirement.
- Update benefit communication materials and resources within internal systems.
- Leave Administration:
- Track leave usage and ADA accommodations and maintain accurate leave data in the HRIS.
- Ensure compliance with leave regulations.
- Process EDD disability, paid family leave, LTD claims, and PTO donations.
- Support collection of IPRA documentation
- Complete Unpaid Leave billing
- Customer Service:
- Provide advice and counsel by answering employee inquiries regarding benefits and leave administration.
- Provide guidance, address concerns, and facilitate problem-solving.
- Partner with employees, disability carriers, benefit brokers, and other stakeholders.
- Resolve claim issues, address program challenges, and ensure smooth operations.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Generate reports and analyze data related to benefits and leave administration.
- Identify trends and opportunities for program improvement.
- Provide data to assist during retirement audits
- Assist the Benefits/LOA team with Benefits and/or Leave audits
- Other duties as assigned.
People Leadership Responsibilities: This role does not have any formal people leadership responsibilities, but the incumbent may be expected to train or mentor new or more junior colleagues.
Financial Responsibilities: May be assigned tracking responsibilities for an established annual budget.
Technical Knowledge:
- General knowledge of employee benefits programs and the principles and practices of employee benefits administration.
- General understanding of federal and state LOA laws and regulations.
- Strong proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Experience with HRIS
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service, time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt well to changing priorities, deadlines, and directions.
- Demonstrates reliability and professionalism.
- Ability to manage assigned projects related to benefits and leave administration.
- Ability to meet deadlines and stay organized to ensure task/project completion.
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Minimum Experience:
- Three years of experience working in HR with an emphasis in benefits and/or leave administration.
- Prior experience with Human Resources Information Systems and Benefits Administration Systems.
- Prior experience in a role providing excellent customer service.
- Experience in a healthcare union environment preferred.
Additional Minimum Requirements: PHR or SHRM certification preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Sit up to 8 hrs/day.
- Stand/walk up to 3-6 hrs/day.
- Bend/Stoop up to 3 hrs/day.
- Reach up to 3 hrs/day.
- Rep use of UE/Grasp up to 8 hrs/day.
- Lift, push, pull up to 15 lbs.
