The general salary range for this position is $77,000-$92,000. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training, and education.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal protection organization, is seeking a Senior Program Manager, Education – Conferences and Events for the Outreach, Engagement, and Training (OET) department. This position plays a pivotal role creating programming, and delivering training for HSUS conferences, meetings and online learning platforms. This role ensures successful development, management, and execution of content for Animal Care Expo (Expo)and Taking Action for Animals (TAFA), including eighteen-month coordination for two annual conferences, session development, oversight of speaker recruitment, and content review/ selection processes. This position oversees the main stage direction, scripting, timing and production, and collaborates with the Conferences and Events team on agenda development, schedules, invitations and rehearsals. Supports other conferences and events as assigned including events with organization partners.

Responsibilities:
  • Content development and management: Oversees the creation and curation of all content for Expo and TAFA. This includes developing the curriculum, curating event topics, scheduling workshops and organizing plenary main stage sessions. Manage the session proposal process and collaborate with internal topic experts and stakeholders;
  • Speaker management: Coordinates all aspects of speaker management for Expo, TAFA, training sessions and any other organization conferences and events. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining a speaker and abstract databases, coordinating materials and timelines, managing email communications, sending invitations and confirmations, handling registrations, arranging travel and hotel accommodations, collecting bios and photos, managing handouts, securing speaker agreements, processing post-conference stipend payments, and evaluating post-event metrics;
  • Round Tables management: Manages the Expo and TAFA Round Tables events including topics and table host solicitation and selection, coordinating host communications, overseeing onsite logistics, and managing staff during the event(s);
  • Scholarship program management: Design and manage the scholarship program for Expo and TAFA. This includes collecting applications, gathering recipient legal paperwork, communicating with recipients, and working with the Accounting department for payment processing;
  • Industry trends and best practices: Stay informed on the latest trends and best practices in event management and animal welfare industry to ensure that the organization remains at the forefront in the field;
  • Web content management: Ensure content on conferences and events related webpages are current. Drafts program text and reviews sessions titles and descriptions for accuracy and appeal. Ensures that all speaker bios and photos are included;
  • Event production management: Develop and manage the scripting and run-of-show details to deliver seamless production for all general sessions, conferences and events;
  • Consultation and support: Serve as consultant for Outreach, Engagement and Training, as well as other program staff, providing expertise on content and scholarship programs for similar events;
  • Onsite support: Provide onsite support to speakers and management of general sessions to ensure smooth execution and a positive experience for all attendees;
  • Additional duties: Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned to support the overall success of the organization and its events.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required;
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in event planning or project management required, five (5) years of experience preferred;
  • Experience working in the animal welfare industry preferred;
  • Experience in the development and execution of content for virtual/hybrid events;
  • Understanding and working knowledge of educational conferences and events;
  • Experience with adult learning styles;
  • Proven ability to coordinate, manage and execute several events simultaneously;
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends as needed;
  • Comfortable thriving in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; self-motivated and proactive;
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to manage issues, resolve problems, and handle conflicts effectively;
  • Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member;

  • Strong customer service skills both to internal and external audiences;
  • Ability to secure and manage CE process and ensure that programming content is sufficient to satisfy CE requirements;
  • Strong instinct for keeping up with changes and impacts of technology on events and meetings;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat;
  • Working knowledge of AirTable, Map Your Show and CVENT is preferred. Experience with abstract speaker management systems;
  • Passionate interest in animal protection issues desired.
