About the Role:
The successful applicant will be responsible for leading a group of Lead Generation Biologists developing novel therapies for neurological disorders. You will provide leadership to ongoing projects and identify new targets across a broad range of modalities to enhance our early pipeline. You will be responsible for meeting project goals that align within corporate vision. Experience leading cross-functional teams and mentoring drug discovery scientists in a biotech or industry setting is essential. Develops, implements and executes research strategies for target identification, validation and targeting, and other scientific platforms and objectives. Stakeholders will include R&D leadership, in vitro and in vivo pharmacologists, chemists, protein engineers, and preclinical and clinical scientists. A significant part of the role will be identifying external partnerships to enhance capacity and capabilities. Drives projects to data driven outcomes in expedited manner, removing roadblocks for teams. Reviews project and capital expenditure budgets for area of responsibility._
Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):Within the overall scientific strategy, directs functional and project teams in the design, development, and execution of drug discovery strategies to meet pipeline goals
Mentors a team of in vitro pharmacology and lead generation scientists, scientists to data-driven outcomes in an efficient and expedited ways, utilizing internal and external resources - innovation without walls
Directs activities across multiple drug discovery programs, and drives the development and incorporation of novel technologies to meet critical path objectives
Partners with senior leadership within R&D to communicate vision and innovation in drug discovery in alignment with company goals
Identify and build relationships with external experts to ensure Neurocrine is a trusted partner for advancing science
Drives innovative modalities for interrogating therapeutic targets
With an expert understanding of the scientific area, anticipates potential issues, provides contingencies and resolutions and continuously improves the process
Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function

BS/BA degree in Biology and 15+ years of experience in innovative modalities for interrogating therapeutic targets and experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company/or equivalent in an academic setting. Proven track record of accomplishments. Demonstrated track record of scientific excellence and innovative research. Extensive previous managerial experiences also required OR
Master's in Biology and 13+ years of similar experience noted above OR
PhD in Biology preferred and 10+ years of similar experience noted above OR
Strong understanding of the drug discovery process, anticipating potential issues, providing contingencies and resolutions, and having the desire to improve that process, continuously.
Motivated, creative, and innovative Biologist with proven expertise in at least one major function in Biology including the design, development, and execution of drug discovery strategies
Possesses the ability to direct a team of scientists, coordinate activities across multiple drug discovery programs, and drive the development and incorporation of novel technologies
Expert working knowledge of data analysis software and the application of laboratory informatics systems
Overall strong work ethic and willingness to engage in laboratory experimentation across therapeutic areas
Recognized as an internal thought leader with extensive technical and business expertise within a strategic organization
Applies in-depth knowledge of own function, and business / commercial/scientific expertise to solve critical issues successfully and innovatively
Evaluates key business / scientific challenges and completes complex, ambiguous initiatives having cross-functional impact
Ability to apply advanced analytical thought and judgment
Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills
Ability to influence others with or without authority at all levels of the organization
Proactive, innovative, with good problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a cross-functional team and matrix environment

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $181,800.00-$263,325.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 35% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
