Essential Job Duties

The Graduate Services Coordinator (GSC) is responsible for the administration of the Economics Graduate Program. In addition, the GSC serves as the principal liaison between the students and the Director of Graduate Programs In this capacity, the Graduate Services Coordinator:

  • Manages the recruitment and admissions processes in conjunction with the Director of Graduate Programs. The GSC will develop expertise in the Slate admissions system for tracking recruitment, evaluation, and admissions decisions. Duties include planning and organization of recruiting events and coordinating outreach to prospective students. The GSC will be responsible for processing admissions applications. The GSC is responsible for coordinating with the Graduate School and the Office of International Students for the processing and matriculation of accepted students. 
  • The GSC is responsible for administering a student tracking system. This includes regular meetings with students to promote retention and timely completion, assistance with preparing Graduate Plans of Work, coordinating advisory committees, adding and dropping courses, maintaining continuous registration, monitoring graduation applications, and requesting the scheduling of oral exams. 
  • Assists students and Director of Graduate Programs in preparing and submitting various forms and documents that require Graduate School approval. These include, but are not limited to, requests for leaves of absence, Graduate Plans of Work, committee appointments, requests for preliminary and final oral exams, grade changes, transfer requests, and reinstatements. 
  • Develops proficiency in using the Student Information System (SIS), the Graduate School Information System databases, SmartSheet, and other information systems to gather necessary statistics and reports and to facilitate all graduate-student-related correspondence with the faculty and with the Graduate School.
  • Assists the Director of Graduate Programs in marketing and communications activities. This includes maintaining a social media presence and communicating events and activities to various stakeholders. Supports job placement activities such as compiling and communicating current job candidates and supporting graduate students in job search activities.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated advanced administrative skills with a high level of professionalism and ability to exercise judgment in a variety of situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate, in written and oral form, detailed and technical program information guidelines to various audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) or similar office products software.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service experience with the ability to provide problem resolutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in project management. Experience in higher education program administration.
  • Experience with marketing and communications and social media. Experience with event planning.
  • Experience programming in Excel and with database management.
