The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering offers undergraduate degrees in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. Graduate programs are offered with specialties in Computing and Systems, Construction Engineering, Water Resources, Coastal and Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering and Mechanics, Transportation Systems and Materials, Geotechnical / Geoenvironmental Engineering, and Mechanics and Materials.
With over 53 faculty, more than 770 undergraduate students and over 300 graduate students, NC State University’s Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) is one of the largest departments in the country and more importantly, one of the best. In 2022, our Environmental Engineering and Civil Engineering degrees were ranked at 21st and 26th in the country, respectively.
At the graduate level we offer the traditional Master’s and Ph.D. degrees with the opportunity to specialize in a wide range of topics in civil, construction, and environmental engineering. We are also a leader in distance education. Students can earn a Master of Civil or Environmental Engineering degree without ever setting foot on campus. CCEE’s online Master of Civil Engineering program was ranked No. 4 in the country on US News & World Report’s 2022 Best Online Programs list.

Essential Job Duties
The Pre- and Post Award Specialist is responsible for overseeing the fiscal management of sponsored research projects / accounts and submitting proposals for funding opportunities. Responsibilities also include ensuring compliance with Cost Accounting Standards and Sponsor terms and conditions; Release Time and Summer Salary submissions; Cost Sharing Management and the TEARS Effort Reporting System.
This position will proactively monitor projects to resolve emerging issues quickly, meeting with faculty to assist with budget forecasting and long-term financial planning, resolving fiscal management problems across departments and units, and answering complex financial questions for faculty.

Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in Accounting; or Associate’s degree in Business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
- Proficiency with computerized financial programs and standard software programs such as Google, Excel and Word.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task in a busy, fast-paced office with frequent deadlines and interruptions.
- Must be knowledgeable and have experience in accounting principles and cost accounting standards.
- Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with individuals of diverse backgrounds and responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain and manage accounting records of moderate variety and complexity, including preparation of financial reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- PeopleSoft Financials and HR experience
- Proficiency with Research Administrative Systems such as PINS, RADAR, Grants.gov, NSF Fastlane, PMR, TEARS, etc.
