General Summary

The Assistant Volleyball Coach and Golf Operations is a unique position designed to support both Odessa College NJCAA Division 1 volleyball and golf programs. Candidates should possess the skills to support athletic and academic development of volleyball student athletes while supporting golf operations including but not limited to travel, recruitment coordination, eligibility and academic support. The Assistant Volleyball Coach and Golf Operations is a full-time, 10-month, position that will support volleyball practice and competition August through November while supporting golf operations. In January, the position will continue to support offseason volleyball and will be responsible for increased golf operations which may include limited travel.  This position reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. 

Specific Position Duties

  • Assist both Volleyball and Golf Head Coaches to manage and supervise all aspects of student-athletes and their development academically, athletically and socially 
  • Responsible for coordination of game travel and inventory for volleyball and golf programs 
  • Assist both Volleyball and Golf Head Coaches in timely advising, registration and grade reports 
  • Assist both Volleyball and Golf Head Coaches in supervision of student athletes who live in residences and monitor meal service in cafeteria as needed 
  •  Monitor pace and progress through documented and scheduled study halls, assigned tutors, faculty conversations, and review of weekly and semester grades
  • Work with the head coaches to maintain established individual and team GPA and completion goals for transferring as NJCAA qualifiers or completers 
  • Work with head coaches to ensure the both teams compete at a high-level culminating in conference, region and national championships
  • Work with head coaches to set expectations and develop strategies to increase athletic programs’ fund raising, engagement and visibility in the community leading to increased support
  • Maintain the integrity of the facility and equipment in cooperation with physical plant and athletic personnel
  • Supports college activities and special events through attendance and/or participation
  • Use interpersonal skills and make sound judgments 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Established record of successful experience teaching and coaching volleyball 
  • Experience in recruiting and advising student-athletes capable of succeeding academically and athletically
  •  Proven ability to establish positive and effective working relationships with students, administration and community
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Demonstrated success in college level volleyball program
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to qualify and maintain current CDL
