University Theatre is a producing theatre, and operates two facilities: Stewart Theatre, in the Talley Student Union, and the Titmus Theatre and Kennedy McIlwee Studio Theatre in Thompson Hall, along with the associated shops and classroom spaces for producing theatre. Our mission is to present a wide variety of theatre experience, and provide spaces for campus organizations to present events. The theatre spaces are used by student, academic, administrative, arts and off-campus groups that present a wide variety of programs to students, staff and general public. We teach classes and produce plays and operate the theatre spaces for over 200 events each year.

Essential Job Duties

  • This position will assist the Technical Director and coordinate with the operations/event coordinator in the production of events in the University Theatre managed venues.
  • This position will be an additional staff supervisor to help cover three venues that often have simultaneous events running concurrently with each other, in addition to assisting event operations.
  • This position will train students and freelance technicians, perform equipment repairs, performance systems integration and minor facility maintenance needs.
  • This position will also specialize in sound reinforcement: design, engineering and operation of complex sound systems for University Theatre productions, and other Arts and client events as needed.

Other Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in theatre arts, and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Operation of power and hand tools, mechanical knowledge. Rigging knowledge.
  • Ability to drive a 26 foot straight truck.
  • ETC programming knowledge.
  • Lighting design principles.
  • Sound reinforcement principles, sound mixing, audio recording with computerized systems.
  • Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite
  • Video projection knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Qlab Experience.
  • Familiarity with CAD (Vectorworks or AutoCAD).

  • Valid NC Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of start date.
